Justin Herbert is one of the premier young quarterbacks in the NFL currently. Employed by the Los Angeles Chargers, Herbert has been a staple of the organization right since his rookie season. Born in Oregon, the youngster started his career at Sheldon High School where he played football, basketball as well as baseball. Further, he also co-founded the Sheraton High School Fishing Club while a member of the school. A broken leg complicated his equipment process but he was still named 1st Team All-State and was the Southwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year.


After recruitment offers from Northern Arizona, Portland State, and Montana State, He got FBS offers from Nevada and Oregon. Eventually, Herbert chose to go to Oregon in October 2015.


As has been the story of his career. Justin became immediately impactful right from his first season. After earning the starting position in the 5th game of the season, he showcased his talents with a brilliant 19 touchdowns to 4 interceptions ratio. He was especially brilliant in a come-from-behind upset when playing the number 11-ranked Utah team. He led his team with four touchdowns in the final 15 minutes and 27 seconds of the game to overcome a 14-3 deficit. Moreover, the final drive saw him complete six out of nine passes for 63 yards, which included a 17-yard game-winning touchdown pass with just two seconds left on the clock.


His second season was spent mostly on the bench due to an injury dropping him out of the lineup. However, he showcased his brilliant academic skill with a 4.08-grade point average in biology which earned him first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American.


His third season saw him enter as an early Heisman Trophy candidate. He let the Ducks do a 94 record in a victory in the red box. His brilliant play earned him a seat on the first-team Pac-12 All-Academic.


Even though he was projected to be a high draft pick, Justin chose to return to Oregon for his senior season. Moreover, he left the tax to a 12 to record, including a win in the Rose Bowl, where he ran for three touchdowns and was named offensive MVP. He was also named the 30th recipient of the William V Campbell Trophy, also referred to as the “academic Heisman.”


Entering a loaded 2020 NFL draft, Herbert was selected sixth overall by the Los Angeles Chargers. He immediately showcased his brilliant play during his rookie season becoming a starter in the second game of the year. As a result, he set several NFL records including most passing touchdowns by a rookie quarterback, most passing yards came by a rookie quarterback, and most completion by a rookie quarterback. Further, he was also named the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.


His second season saw him continue his strong play, As he said franchise records with 5000 plus passing yards, 38 passing touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Further, he led the team to a 9-8 record and was recognized for his excellent play with his first career Pro Bowl.


The third season saw him continue more of his spectacular play, even after suffering a fracture to his rib cartilage early on in the season. He left the charges to a 10-7 record, along with a playoff birth, and set single-season franchise records for past attempts and completions in the process. However, he is still in the playoffs wasn't ideal. After a remarkable 27- 0 start, the Chargers surrendered that lead en route to the third-largest blown lead in NFL playoff history, losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-30.


After signing a record five-year extension worth $262.5 million, Herbert is now the highest-paid LFL quarterback with an average annual value of $52.5 million per season.
