Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson is one of the top quarterbacks in American football today. He was born on January 7, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida. Jackson has come through several hardships as the area he lived in was rough and economically unstable. Furthermore, when he was only 8 years old, he lost his father due to a heart attack. Football was a means for him to put his struggles aside and focus on something he loved.

Playing for the Baltimore Ravens franchise in the NFL, Jackson has helped propel the team to a higher level in the past six years. He was drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Ravens with the last pick of the first round. Since then, Jackson has already won the NFL MVP in 2019 in just his second year in the league.

The 6’ 2” quarterback is widely hailed as one of the top modern-day dual-threat quarterbacks due to his ability to scramble with the ball and pick up enormous gains as well as his aerial ability to find receivers. As a matter of fact, during his MVP-winning season, he set NFL records in rushing attempts with 176 and rushing yards for a quarterback with 1,206 throughout the season.

By the time his sophomore year started, Jackson was handed over the starting job and he did not disappoint. He played in all 13 games in both his sophomore and junior years performing admirably as a dual-threat quarterback.

In the 2016 season, Jackson had 3,543 passing yards to go along with 30 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also added 1,571 yards on the ground and ran for 21 touchdowns. The icing on the cake was his Heisman Trophy win as he beat out the likes of future NFL peers - Deshaun Watson, Dede Westbrook, Jabrill Peppers, and Baker Mayfield.

2017 was nearly a similar season for Jackson as he continued where he left off from the previous year. Passing for 3,660 yards with 27 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, Jackson added a further 1,601 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Once again he was in the hunt for the Heisman Trophy but this time he finished third in voting behind Baker Mayfield and Bryce Love.
