Patrick Mahomes II is an American football quarterback who plays in the National Football League (NFL) for the Kansas City Chiefs. Born on 17 September, 1995, the 26 year old entered the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, where he was the tenth pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes is considered to be one of the best quarterbacks of the new NFL era.
Mahomes secured 5,052 passing yards and a total of 53 touchdowns when he played for Texas Tech University in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). He is the sole quarterback in history to throw for over 5,000 yards during a season in both college football and also the NFL. Mahomes is the only the fourth African-American quarterback to have won the All Pro MVP award. Mahomes took the Chiefs team to Super Bowl LIV during the 2019-20 playoffs. In their first Super Bowl victory since 1970, they defeated the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes was awarded the Super Bowl’s Most Valuable Player for his performance, making him only the second African-American quarterback to win the award after Doug Williams. Mahomes was also named in Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2020.
He is also the second youngest quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger to win the Super Bowl.
In 2020, Mahomes signed a record breaking 10-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs making it the second largest known contract in sporting history. The contract states that the Super Bowl champion and MVP will be in Kansas City through 2031. It is a whopping $450 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. With a $10 million signing bonus, and $141,481,905 guaranteed, the contract has an average annual salary of $45 million dollars.
