5 Reasons Sonya Deville should defeat Mandy Rose at SummerSlam

All the hair is on the line this Sunday at SummerSlam

For the first time in their respective careers, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose will be competing in a singles match at a PPV when they face each other this Sunday at SummerSlam. The former best friends are putting it all on the line in a Hair vs. Hair match, where the winner gets to shave the loser bald.

Mandy Rose laid down the challenge to Deville following a vicious attack backstage in which The Pride Fighter took scissors to Rose's golden locks.

As soon as the said challenge was thrown down on last Friday's Smackdown, many people (including some of my colleagues) were quick to jump on the Mandy Rose bandwagon. People like Sportskeeda's Senior Journalist Tom Colohue believe that Rose will get the victory and Deville will lose her hair.

Tom and everyone else who share his feelings may be right in the end. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that Mandy Rose isn't going to win at SummerSlam. What I will do, is give you five reasons why the exact opposite should happen. Sonya Deville should absolutely win at SummerSlam.

#5 Sonya Deville needs to back up her confidence

Sonya Deville is exactly what the WWE needs right now. A strong and confident heel. Take a look at the landscape of the locker room right now and really analyze the top bad guys and girls. With the exception of Randy Orton, they all have one thing in common - they're afraid to fight anybody.

AJ Styles is one of the best wrestlers in the world, yet he's been actively avoiding defending the Intercontinental Championship since he won it. King Corbin is another example. He's a 6'8" 285lbs grown man with the most devastating move set in the company. Yet, he either runs from or begrudgingly accepts every challenge that comes his way.

Even the cream of the crop of the Women's Division reeks of fear. Bayley and Sasha Banks are so afraid to wrestle anyone that they consistently force one another to fight their battles for them, and then usually cheat to win.

Sonya Deville is the exact opposite. She knows how good she is and she's eager to prove it to everyone - especially her former best friend. A confident, cocky heel who actually backs up what they say with action is a real breathe of fresh air. Sonya Deville for weeks has vowed to dismantle Mandy Rose, and WWE creative needs to allow her to follow through on that promise.

#4 Sonya Deville needs to bust out of the shadows

Mandy Rose has always been the focus of Fire and Desire
Mandy Rose has always been the focus of Fire and Desire

Make no mistake about it, this feud has been built around one thing - Sonya Deville's drive to be successful. She tried bringing Mandy Rose along for the ride, or at least that's what she claims. When the Hacker outed Deville's devious plot to keep Mandy away from Otis, the two friends ended up having a falling out.

Now, for the first time in 5 years, Sonya Deville is standing on her own two feet. When Sportskeeda spoke to Deville last week she seemed pretty excited to be riding solo.

"It's the greatest feeling ever, you know? Everyone can relate to what it feels like to be stuck in somebody's shadows. You know? I feel like it's always like Lucy and Ethel... And I feel like I was a part of Absolution and it was me, Paige and Mandy. And then it was Fire and Desire. It was me and Mandy and like I’ve said, I walked out to her entrance music. And she kind of played more of the prominent role. So there was a certain amount of frustration that's real when you're, when you're living that."

The argument has been made that since Sonya has gotten the better of Mandy nearly every step of the way during this feud, that Rose should finally get her retribution at SummerSlam.

When you think about it however, until this year, it's always been about Mandy Rose. She's the one who's been featured more prominently of the two. She's the one who's gotten the chance to compete for Money in the Bank. She's the one who's been involved in more storylines - even if it was something as dumb as trying to steal Naomi's husband. At least it was something.

Sonya Deville finally has the opportunity to be put over Mandy Rose emphatically, so WWE should go ahead and put Mandy over again? I don't think so.

#3 It's time for Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose to move on

Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose are currently locked in a heated rivalry that has become one of the best feuds in WWE. They have done a remarkable job of keeping the audience invested during a program that is now well into it's fourth month.

All good things need to come to an end though. A win for Sonya Deville would definitively end this program. She would have accomplished exactly what she set out to do in destroying and embarrassing Mandy Rose.

"When I say finished with Mandy, I mean, she's out of my life and out of this division because that's my only goal in ruining her is to get her away from me and, um, to devalue her totally as a human."

That's what Sonya Deville told Sportskeeda this past week she wanted to do to Mandy Rose. Okay so a shaved head isn't exactly devaluing her as a human being, but it would be it pretty embarrassing for Rose none the less.

Once Deville has indeed finished off Mandy Rose, both parties can move on. If Mandy wins on Sunday, that means WWE is likely to keep kicking this can down the road. As long as Sonya Deville has unfinished business with Mandy Rose, she will not stop coming after her. It's time both women move on to the next phase in their careers. Which brings me to...

#2 Sonya Deville is chomping at the bit for a Title opportunity

Sonya Deville has Sasha Banks and Bayley in her sights.
Sonya Deville has Sasha Banks and Bayley in her sights.

With the exception of a short 4-day reign of Charlotte Flair mixed in to allow for her heel turn, Bayley has been the SmackDown Women's Champion for well over a year now. She's pretty much run the gamut of the women's locker room, and the company continues to delay an inevitable feud with Sasha Banks. So with that in mind, she needs new challengers.

Both Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose would breathe new life into the Title scene, but I personally think the time is right for Sonya to get the opportunity. Her promo work and character development over the last few months has given her a wave of momentum and now is the right time to cash in on it.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Sonya Deville says winning Championship gold is definitely an immediate goal - once she's through with Mandy Rose.

"As soon as I'm finished with Mandy... when I say finished with Mandy, I mean, she's out of my life and out of this division because that's my only goal in ruining her is to get her away from me and, um, to devalue her totally as a human. So when that is done and that is accomplished, I will move on to winning championship gold. Cause that's what I'm destined to do."

Sonya Deville says she has her sights set on both the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championships - assuming that both Sasha Banks and Bayley are successful in their Title defenses against Asuka on Sunday.

"The only reason those two (Sasha Banks and Bayley) still have all the gold right now is because they haven't faced me yet. So yes, that is my immediate future goal."

I'm not saying a win over Mandy Rose should put her directly into the Title conversation, but a loss could possibly delay that opportunity even further. Sonya Deville should be fighting for singles gold sooner rather than later. It's time for WWE to get the ball rolling on her ascension to the top of the card.

#1 Mandy Rose losing her hair is a better story

Allow me to ask you a question. What does Sonya Deville losing her hair actually accomplish? The answer is nothing.

It would be a huge loss on a grand stage like SummerSlam, but ultimately it would just be another disappointing defeat for the Sonya Deville character. Just this time around she has to cut her hair. It's a little bit of salt in the wound of losing a match to her former best friend, but other than that it doesn't add much.

Sonya Deville is used to being the outcast. She's used to being different. Her dynamic wouldn't change hardly at all if she lost her hair. Now if Mandy were to lose this bout, well that's a horse of a different color.

Now this isn't a knock on Mandy Rose's work ethic or in ring ability, because she has talent and has worked hard to get where she is in WWE. However, when it comes to the Mandy Rose character, it's always been about her looks first. You don't get the nickname "God's Greatest Creation" for no reason.

As I said earlier, Mandy losing her hair will not equate to a lifetime of suffering, but it does create an interesting short term story. Obviously Mandy Rose would still be a gorgeous woman, hair or no hair. The question is, would Mandy still think that way about herself? How would she cope without her golden locks? Would she go the Molly Holly route and try on wigs? How would the rest of the locker room treat her? How would Otis react to his precious peach losing all her hair? Would he stick by her side?

There's a lot of different avenues the company could take here. There's a lot of meat on that bone, at least more so than if Sonya Deville was the one to suffer the unfortunate hair cut. I for one, would be very interested in seeing any number of them play out - while Sonya Deville moves on to her next goal of winning a Championship.
