Sportskeeda's take on the EPL transfer rumours of 5th July

Blaise Matuidi
Matuidi could be the next big signing at Manchester United

Welcome to our latest football transfer analysis section. Over the last few days, we have been talking about the various transfer rumours doing the rounds, and doing an in-depth analysis on them.

Today, we talk about the future of Blaise Matuidi, Joe Allen, and Kalidou Koulibaly. After going through the local newspapers and websites, we’ll try to bring some transfer sense to the rumours.

Blaise Matuidi to Manchester United

According to Goal, Paris-Saint Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi was allowed to leave Clairefontaine, the France national team training centre, to conduct talks with Manchester United. The 29-year-old could be Jose Mourinho’s fourth signing at Manchester United.

Experts say: The reports suggesting Matuidi has left France to hold negotiations with Manchester United was immediately denied by journalists in France.

Our take: Matuidi could be leaving the French giants after the arrival of Grzegorz Krychowiak, and the fact that he is the client of Mino Raiola makes it even more interesting. Manchester United have already signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who are Raiola’s clients, and French newspaper L’Equipe did claim that Matuidi is indeed a transfer target for Jose Mourinho. At the moment, it’s safe to say Manchester United could try to sign Matuidi this summer, but it’s difficult to say if it’s going to happen or not.

Chances of it happening out of 10: 6/10

Joe Allen to Swansea

Swansea City have made a bid of £8m for Wales star Joe Allen, reports the Daily Mail. Liverpool, however, have set an asking price of £14m for Allen, after his impressive performances at the Euros. The player is expected to leave Anfield this summer, as Liverpool have been actively looking to sign a midfielder in the transfer market.

Experts say: Local journalists believe Joe Allen is leaving the club this summer, but the rumours have gone a bit silent after his impressive performances at the Euros.

Our take: Liverpool have so far failed to agree a deal for any of their midfield transfer targets. Local journalists reckon a deal for Piotr Zielinski or Mahmoud Dahoud looks unlikely, and that could change things. The player has one year left on his contract, and if Liverpool get their transfer targets then he is certainly leaving Anfield this summer, despite his inspiring performances at the Euros in France. However, it remains to be seen if he is returning to Swansea.

Chances of it happening out of 10: 7/10

Kalidou Koulibaly to Chelsea

The Napoli star has been linked to Chelsea in the last few days, and latest reports suggest the Serie A club are ready to turn down a big-money move for the Senegalese defender. Aurelio De Laurentiis wants Koulibaly to honour the three years left on his contract.

Experts say: The Italian media have been quite silent on Koulibaly’s future lately, and that is probably because they don’t think he is leaving Napoli this summer.

Our take: Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has made it quite clear the player is going nowhere, and it’s going to be very difficult for the Premier League club to sign him. Koulibaly’s comments in the media have only made things more difficult, and we can’t really see him moving, except if Chelsea offer an astronomical fee for the player.

Chances of it happening out of 10: 2/10
