Since Hyderabad FC, in absolute Hollywood style, defeated Kerala Blasters FC in the final on penalties last season, the Indian footballing fraternity has been patiently waiting for the next episode of the Indian Super League (ISL). The 2022-23 season of the top-tier competition is finally about to get underway on Friday, October 7.

The new season brings along rejuvenated hopes and dreams for all the teams. However, for fans, the ISL is returning to normalcy, which means a traditional home-and-away format and most importantly, fans are back in the stadium.

The league phase of the tournament will run from October to February and the knockout phases will start in March. Unlike previous years, the knockout spots have been extended from four to six to give the mid-table clubs something to fight for till the end of the season.

While the Nizams are the defending champions and Jamshedpur FC are the Shield winners, Bengaluru FC will start the tournament as one of the favorites after their exploits in the Durand Cup. Meanwhile, the acquisition of Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Greg Stewart has strengthened Mumbai City FC.
