5 reasons why 'Ziggler v Bryan' should happen at Wrestlemania 31

The seeds have already been planted for this epic match up as Ziggler put fans in a stir as he tweeted Bryan the following after the rumble “Yo DB, was pulling for you, brother. But if you really want to steal the show #Wrestlemania I’m right here & way angrier #Raw”. The most intriguing part is that Bryan shortly responded with a simple “I’m in!” Could we actually be getting this amazing feud? Let’s take a look at five reasons why this match should definitely happen.

#1 An Amazing Match

Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler are both amazing in ring performers and arguably two of the best WWE has to offer. The mass amount of talent here would be guaranteed to deliver. Bryan is one of the greatest technicians in the entire world, Ziggler is an amazing wrestler and of the best at selling in the entire world. Both possess entertaining styles that would surely mesh well together in a big match situation.

They have met before in the ring, even at WM29 in a tag team championship match, but a singles bout at Wrestlemania 31 now that both guys have climbed much higher and cemented themselves as top stars would be huge. Not only would the match be sure fire to impress, the build-up would also be certain to excite.

#2 Great Build Up

The wheels have already been set in motion for this potential epic encounter as Ziggler and Bryan exchanged tweets hinting towards a match at Wrestlemania 31. Both stars are beloved by the fans and it’s a certainty that the build up for a bout between these two would be just as great as the match.

I was trying to think of the words to describe this possible classic between two men that have proved their tremendous ability, have won the fans over but are still being held down as they attempt to break through the glass ceiling and firmly into the main event scene. But then Ziggler posted another tweet that perfectly summed up the situation so I decided to be lazy and use his explanation.

Dolph recently posted the following “WE signed our lives away… you have no idea, but it’s always been there, introduced as afterthoughts, repeatedly forced to prove why WE belong, told the sky was the limit yet knowing there was no chance… One broke through that ceiling after an unprecedented fight, one has been banging his head against it for years. One is a nice guy with a killer instinct. One is not afraid to rub people the wrong what to get what is his. One is thankful and smiles. One smirks and says damn right. Two different, yet legitimate backgrounds. Two stars who became super purely because they weren’t supposed to. Stealing the show is a catchphrase. Get over IT! WE sure as hell did! I dare you take IT way from US! We already own that RING. WE are the saints…” Daniel Bryan then retweeted Zigglers post along with the comment “Let your voices be heard”.

If that doesn’t get you excited then I don’t know what will.

#3 Sheamus v Bryan Would Lack Intrigue

Other rumoured plans for Daniel Bryan were talks of another match with Sheamus as this was allegedly scheduled for last years mania before CM Punks departure, Batistas failed face return and The Yes Movements massive uprising. But I believe I speak for a huge majority of the WWE Universe when I say that there is absolutely no interest in seeing a Bryan v Sheamus match at the grandest stage at them all.

Sure theres plenty of history between the two, wrestling to a no contest in a WM27 dark match, the infamous 18 second debacle at WM28 and an impressive 2 out of 3 falls match at Extreme Rules. But with a complete lack of fan interest, this bout would be doomed to fail. Not to mention this would seem like a step down for Bryan, as a match with Sheamus doesnt feel like a top tier. Especially when compared to a potential match with Ziggler that would gain much more intrigue and be more entertaining in ring wise. A Sheamus bout could possibly be used as a placeholder feud at Fastlane to gain some more momentum for Bryan as he heads into a match at mania with Dolph.

Sheamus v Bryan at Wrestlemania would lack importance and feel like a massive step down for Bryan and possibly leave Ziggler without a feud at all, which would be a huge slap in the face to the fans when both men are clearly deserving of top spots.

#4 Both Deserving Of Top Spots (Nothing Else To Do)

Bryan and Ziggler were both plausible candidates to win the rumble and go on to face Lesnar but that obviously didnt happen. Regardless though, these two are both still deserving of top spots at the biggest show of the year. With other big names already apparently pencilled in for Wrestlemania feuds, such as Cena v Rusev, Lesnar v Reigns and the highly likely possibilities of Wyatt v Taker (maybe), Rollins v Orton, this leaves Dolph and Bryan without many viable top opponents left.

One large name without a defined direction is Dean Ambrose but its possible if Take doesnt return then Wyatt could battle Orton leaving Rollins to resume his feud with Ambrose. The Rollins v Orton feud could happen at Fastlane or be postponed till after Wrestlemania.

That leaves Ziggler and Bryan without top opponents, and facing each other may be best for business as it would create a highly anticipated bout sure to deliver. Its also possible that Ambrose could get involved in this feud making it a triple threat at mania but I think Ambrose would be better off doing other things and I believe Ziggler v Bryan would be better off left as a one on one encounter.

But both men are faces? Who would turn heel?

#5 Neither Has To Turn Heel

There is absolutely no need for either man to turn heel in order for this feud to work effectively. This could simply be a match built on respect much like Bryans battle with Cena at Summerslam in 2013. Both superstars garner a loud positive reaction every time they enter with the fans firmly behind them and turning one of them heel could potentially kill their momentum.

It’s also possible that one man turns semi-heel to further progress the story and Ziggler would probably be the better choice as Bryan’s fan support is overwhelming. A perfect example of a recent ‘semi-turn’ that worked well was Adrian Neville who essentially took on the role of the bad guy during his feud with Sami Zayn. If WWE doesn’t want Ziggler or Bryan to remain heel going on past mania due to their popularity but think it would help during the feud, they could half turn someone heel then turn them back like Neville did when he embraced Zayn after losing the championship to him.

Neither man has to turn heel in order for this to work but a ‘semi-turn’ is definitely a possibility.

#6 Final Thoughts

Daniel Bryan v Dolph Ziggler has all the makings of an instant classic. I believe WWE would be foolish not to book this bout now, especially after it has been teased on social media by both Ziggler and Bryan. I have to admit as soon as I saw the tweets teasing a match between these two amazingly talented individuals, my anticipation and excitement in regards to Wrestlemania 31 shot up drastically.
