The Clash of Champions is the final WWE pay-per-view of 2017 and features a number of stars from SmackDown hoping to end their current rivalries and make it quite an enjoyable start to the festive period.

So far there are only five matches announced for the event, which will see every title on the brand being defended. Even though Clash of Champions isn't considered to be one of the "big four" pay-per-view events on WWE's calendar, it is thought to be a number of WWE stars last chance to end 2017 on a high after a string of losses on pay-per-view over the past few months.

Every star on this list hasn't won a match as part of a WWE special network event since at least SummerSlam back in August, with some WWE stars stretching their losing streak all the way back into 2016. So a loss this weekend would mean that they have failed to pick up a win on pay-per-view for an entire calendar year, a stat that no WWE superstar will want on their record with the season of goodwill currently underway.

#5 The New Day

The New Day will be hoping to end a run of bad form on Sunday night
The New Day will be hoping to end a run of bad form on Sunday night

The New Day are considered to be one of the best trios that WWE currently have but the company really seem to have dropped the ball with them in their match against The Shield at Survivor Series last month, where the record-breaking trio failed to defeat one of the most dominant teams in WWE history so that they could claim the title of WWE's best three-man team.

This isn't the only loss that the popular team have suffered over the past few months, with their last win on pay-per-view coming at SummerSlam back in August where they won the Tag Team Championships when they defeated The Usos.

The real-life brothers later won the titles back at Battleground, before ending the feud on a high at Hell in a Cell, ahead of The New Day's feud with The Shield, which means that the booty-loving team are without a win on pay-per-view in almost four months. They will be hoping to change that statistic this weekend when they face The Usos, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin and Aiden English and Rusev in a fatal four-way match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

#4 AJ Styles

AJ Styles is the reigning WWE Champion and faces Jinder Mahal on Sunday night at Clash of Champions as The Modern Day Maharajah cashes in his rematch clause for the title he lost in Birmingham back in November.

Even though AJ is the main champion on the brand, it doesn't mean that he has a good record on pay-per-views, since his last win came all the way back at SummerSlam in August. Styles defeated Kevin Owens to retain the United States Championship at 'The Biggest Party of the Summer' before he dropped the Championship to Baron Corbin in a triple threat match that also included Tye Dillinger at Hell in a Cell back in October.

He later stepped into Bray Wyatt's shoes at the Raw exclusive pay-per-view TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs where he was defeated by Finn Balor ahead of his WWE Championship win over Jinder Mahal a few weeks later.

AJ then stepped in for Mahal at Survivor Series as he became another victim of Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, but luckily the match wasn't for his Championship. AJ now has to hope that the latest fall out between Jinder and The Singh Brothers means that the numbers are in his favour this weekend so that he can end this statistic and head into 2018 as the WWE Champion.

#3 Rusev and Aiden English

Will it be a Rusev Day worth celebrating on Sunday?
Will it be a Rusev Day worth celebrating on Sunday?

It probably comes as no surprise that Rusev and Aiden English are on this list, especially since Rusev's last win came back at Roadblock: End of the Line in December 2016 where he defeated Big Cass by countout.

Aiden English is seemingly on the same level having only won one match on pay-per-view since he was drafted over to the SmackDown brand back in the summer of 2016. English's win came over Tye Dillinger as part of the Battleground kick-off show back in July, the return match from Backlash where he was defeated by Dillinger and it seemed to end the pointless feud between the two men.

English and Rusev are the wildcard in the Tag Team match this weekend but would definitely be welcome winners if WWE decided to take the gamble and put the titles on an unlikely duo once again.

#2. Shinsuke Nakamura

The artist known as Shinsuke Nakamura has been knocked out of the title picture in recent months, so much so that he is now relegated to aligning himself with Randy Orton to face the team of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn with Shane McMahon as the special guest referee at Clash of Champions.

Nakamura came up to the SmackDown brand following John Cena's departure after WrestleMania back in April and was billed as the next big star on the brand, but it seems that the fire that his debut gave to the brand has since burned out. Nakamura is another star who hasn't won on pay-per-view since Battleground back in July when he was able to defeat Baron Corbin via disqualification.

Since then Nakamura has lost back to back matches to Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam and Hell in a Cell and was one of the first men eliminated from the traditional Survivor Series match at the pay-per-view of the same name last month which has now left him in the position where he isn't even in a title match this weekend.

#1 Dolph Ziggler

Dolph desperately needs a win on Sunday night to avoid the worst run of his career
Dolph desperately needs a win on Sunday night to avoid the worst run of his career

Dolph Ziggler is a shock addition to the United States Championship this weekend at Clash of Champions, especially since he hasn't done anything of note on SmackDown Live since his two-out-of-three falls match loss to Bobby Roode last month.

Ziggler has been on a downward spiral over this past year with his last win on pay-per-view coming all the way back at No Mercy on October 9th, 2016. Ziggler has lost to the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode at the most recent WWE pay-per-views before he failed to play a part in Survivor Series last month when he lost his qualifying match to Roode.

If Dolph fails to win his triple threat match that also includes Bobby Roode and Baron Corbin, then he will be the only WWE star to go through the entirety 2017 without a single win on pay-per-view. Rusev could also be awarded the same statistic if he is unsuccessful in his attempts to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships this weekend.

Adding to this, Dolph Ziggler is rumoured to be leaving WWE soon, so this might just be the last time we see The Show Off on WWE PPV.
