John Cena's gone: Now, back to the future

John Cena taking on Daniel Bryan

John Cena is no stranger to repetition. Be it his t-shirts, his promos or his wrestling moves, he is a repetition-pro. What he repeats, just like those entities, is about him taking a break from the rigorous schedule of the WWE. Let’s hope this time it’s true.

It did seem true. He said 4 to 6 months, even though that injury on his elbow seemed like a make-up creation. He has to be Satan if he goes on appearing on WWE television frequently during the months he was supposed to missing due to injury. Nonetheless, the huge pop he received after this announcement might give him the perfect indication. But the man will be missed, I tell you! Love him or hate him, he will be missed in some capacity.

Now that he’s gone for the long haul, the WWE seems like a potpourri of budding characters capable of superstardom. The WWE has nothing to lose, except maybe ratings, but nothing seems better than a new start. These budding characters have no high expectations from the audience to stand up.

Maybe this injury is a ruse and it’s just making room for a major Daniel Bryan push. But if it’s too good to be true, then the return of the Corporation maybe the damage control mode the company is pulling, and are capitalizing on its hottest star right now; and in John Cena’s absence, Randy Orton, who was always considered to be the second most bankable star, is now sharing the spotlight with Bryan.

It is a huge responsibility for CM Punk too, as apart from John Cena, he’s the one who had some major feuds, and more than John Cena, he had some show stealing moments with each of his opponents. And expectations will be high for Punk, Orton, Triple H and the McMahons. The darkness that is the Corporation is back, and that reigns supreme on the entire locker room. This might lead to new alliances being formed, and some new faces and heels might turn up and take the baton from there.

People thrive under instability, and with the new dictatorial regimen taking over, it might just present some changes and arrivals which everyone’s been waiting for. I see huge potential in the character development of the Shield. They should not break up but rather have individual promos and backstage interactions with other characters.

Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose look like they might be feuding and I, for one, am excited about that. The cool, edgy and dark time that was the Attitude Era might be returning in a more mellowed format, but if there’s any indication given by the Stephanie Mcmahon and Bryan promo, then we are in for a lot of brouhaha. Heel Stephanie was always easy to hate, and face Stephanie was really difficult to adore.

John Cena was a towering entity. He had at least an hour’s presence on TV. And that hour might come in handy in moving on with the future stars of the WWE. At this moment, with Brock Lesnar’s routine departure too, there is next to no presence of part-time stars. This might just turn out to be a pivotal time in RAW programming.
