Monday Night RAW: 20th January 2014 - 5 Talking Points

As we inch closer towards Royal Rumble, WWE RAW should have been spectacular. After all it’s the Royal Rumble on Sunday. Last year, Rock and CM Punk faced each other in a lackluster main event of the PPV. Yes, after the rumble got over. Will a singles match main event this time around too? Anyway, nothing can take away the unpredictability of the Royal Rumble match. 30 men will enter the ring and one of them is hopefully going to headline Wrestlemania.

Even though last year’s main event was not all that special, the build up to it was amazing. Punk-Rock confrontations were great as heel Punk played a prodigious contrast to The Rock. But Raw this week could have been so much more.

Here are the five talking points of the show.

5. Batista- Gone with the Wind

His return was preceded by a seemingly long intro and when he finally made his way to the ring he said a few lines about going after Orton’s titles and then *Poof* he was gone.

And then *Poof* he appeared again to Batista Bomb Del Rio and then he was, AGAIN, gone.

4. Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar on RAW

Even though Lesnar’s appearances on RAW are haywire, whenever he’s made a return, it has been spectacular. Be it against Cena, against Vince McMahon, against Punk or his most recent return. He’s got quite a presence and Paul Heyman is at his evil best whenever he’s besides Lesnar. Tonight, they resorted to mind games and eventually got overpowered by the Big Show. But Sunday, might just be a reminiscence of their previous matches on Smackdown.

3. Daniel Bryan will Face Bray Wyatt and The Shield are still the best 3 man tag team.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Bryan has been cleared to wrestle after his concussion last week. And now he’s set to face the leader of the Buzzards- Brya Wyatt. Quite an abrupt end there, to their union.

It was also great to see Seth Rollins getting a pin and a win for The Shield. The match saw Rhodes flying and later on in the match he took an awesome punch by Reigns in the middle of his Disaster kick- Mid Air. Rollins pinned Langston, and this was followed by the WWE’s close up’s of Reigns having a staredown on the fallen Intercontinental Champion. So maybe, Reigns won’t win the Rumble but he might as well be the next Intercontinental Champion.

2. Punk is the No.1 Rumble entrant

So continuing the tradition from the past few years, the No. 1 entrant was announced but this time in a bizzare fashion. You see, Punk won his match against Billy Gunn but that win meant that he was the one with the toughest test of time to follow come Sunday.

1. John Cena And Orton at it again

cenaorton

And again, they fail to impress. Not only is this rivalry repetitive, but Orton going after Cena’s dad is repetitive. WWE just can’t seem to recycle their own material which was crap in the first place. Anyway, this marked the end of the show and another minute closer to the Rumble. Hope a young superstar wins this time.
