'Money In The Bank Ladder Match' - A statistical review

Its that time of the year again when every WWE superstar looks at climbing the ladder, retrieving the briefcase, cashing it in and winning the prestigious title. Its time for WWE ‘Money in the Bank’, a pay per view which redefines adrenaline rush, redefines risk taking, redefines brutality and redefines entertainment.

Over the years, we’ve had some epic MITB ladder matches that have exceeded all expectations. Let us have a statistical insight into this high-risk, high-reward match and see what the numbers have to say.

• There have been 12 MITB ladder matches that have taken place over the years.
• 44 is the total number of superstars that have been a part of this match.
• The MITB ladder match was initially featured in six Wrestlemanias (WM 21-26) before it was given a PPV of its own in 2010.
• 2010 is the only year that featured the MITB ladder match both in Wrestlemania and in the individual PPV.
• There have been 3 MITB PPVs so far (2010,2011,2012)
• Since the origin of the new PPV, two ladder matches are featured – from the RAW brand and the SmackDown brand.
• Kane is the most experienced superstar in this type of match, making six appearances. He will be making his seventh appearance in the upcoming PPV.
• Christian and Shelton Benjamin are not far behind, making five appearances each. Christian will make his sixth appearance this year.

• Kane holds the record for cashing in the briefcase the fastest. He cashed it in on the same night and pinned Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Championship.
• Rob Van Dam and John Cena are the only MITB winners to announce when they would cash in the briefcase. RVD announced that he would do it at ‘ECW One Night Stand’ and Cena scheduled it at RAW 1000.
• John Cena remains the only superstar to unsuccessfully cash in the briefcase as he lost to CM Punk at RAW 1000.
• Daniel Bryan, who won it in 2011, cashed it in on a injured Mark Henry after the latter’s altercation with the Big Show to claim the WHC. As Henry was was not medically cleared to fight, the match was revoked and Bryan was promptly given back his briefcase.
