"It’s f**king stressful" - 16-time Champion details his honest take on WWE's backstage scene involving Paul Heyman and another legend

The Bloodline
The Bloodline's Special Counsel, Paul Heyman, has been in the wrestling business for nearly four decades!

Several WWE Superstars have fallen prey to backstage politics over the years. In some cases, it might be the sole reason why a wrestler won't get the push they deserve. In some cases, however, it could be a combination of the situation among the higher-ups and the superstar's own personal struggles. Rob Van Dam falls into the second category.

Rob Van Dam's career never hit the all-time high it did in 2006 when the ECW Original won the WWE Championship from John Cena at the ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view event, surrounded by a rioting diehard crowd rooting for the "Whole F'n Show."

After being awarded the ECW Championship as well since the Stamford-based promotion's version of the legendary Philadelphia-based promotion's revival, RVD held both belts simultaneously, albeit only briefly. He was ultimately suspended and had to drop them due to a Wellness Policy Violation.

Speaking to Inside The Ropes, Rob Van Dam recalled WWE's backstage scenario when he was an active wrestler, remarking:

"My first few days there, it was just crazy like JR would be like, you know, ‘hey, I got you that that extra money you were talking about, you know, I bet your buddy from Philadelphia don’t do that for you, does he?’ And then Paul would say something you know just as ridiculous."

Van Dam felt that he would be better off without this kind of help from either Jim Ross or Paul Heyman backstage. The veteran felt that he didn't need anybody's validation. He concluded by stating:

"It’s a competition in that way and it’s f*cking stressful.” [H/T: ITR]

Rob Van Dam talks about "broken promises" in WWE owing to favoritism

RVD further detailed how people backstage were "vying" for their guys at the time. Despite being a "Paul Heyman Guy" himself, the former WWE Champion was not particularly very pleased with the way things ran behind the scenes.

The now 52-year-old veteran averred:

“It didn’t take long. It was right away and it drove me nuts. I never did feel comfortable there like I did in ECW the whole time I was there. For one, they, I think this is probably something that nobody is excluded from. There’s always exceptions, but probably, they make a lot of promises, they don’t keep, that’s enough to drive anybody [crazy]." [H/T: ITR]

While Paul Heyman would support RVD for a main event spot, another backstage personnel would intervene and throw their preferred superstar into the mix.

The Hall of Famer recently appeared on WWE TV during the draft night to announce a few picks. It remains to be seen if the legend would ever return to the global juggernaut company for another run as a competitor.
