Predicting the match card for WWE Battleground 2013

After a not so impressive Night of Champions, WWE is all set to get ready for the first PPV of October, which is Battleground. With another PPV lined up in the same month, there isn’t a lot one can expect from Battleground. WWE will have its work cut out trying to build a storyline for Battleground with a little relevance to Survivor Series as well.

Rather than making matches that suit the name of the PPV, it looks as though WWE will try and take the easy way out by naming rematches from Night of Champions.

The matches that already have been announced are.

1. Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton (WWE Championship)

2. Alberto Del Rio vs Rob Van Dam (World Heavyweight Championship)

Here are the remaining match card predictions for Battleground 2013.

Ryback vs CM Punk

Ryback attacked CM Punk and saved Heyman from getting the beating of his life. Ryback then was introduced as Heyman’s newest client, which is great news for Ryback’s future in WWE. Though these two have already been in a feud before, Heyman’s inclusion as Ryback’s manager can bring about some necessary excitement into the bout.

Though I’m not very happy with Ryback’s inclusion into this storyline, and would have preferred the rumored bout against Big E Langston, let’s hope WWE has something special in store for us in this match at Battleground.

Curtis Axel vs Kofi Kingston (Intercontinental title match)

The Intercontinental title hasn’t been defended as often as one would expect it to be. No matter how hard WWE tries, it will be difficult to accept Axel as a believable champion unless he gets into feud that involves the title. For long he has spent meaningless time against Punk, and despite best efforts from Heyman and Punk, Axel hasn’t been able to look convincing due to WWE’s bad booking.

However, with Ryback in the scenario against Punk we can expect Axel to start concentrating on his Intercontinental title again, and who better to challenge him than Kofi Kingston? The two have had good matches before, but none have had a strong storyline to support their matches. Hopefully, Kingston will come out and challenge the champion for a match at Battleground.

Big Show, Dolph Ziggler & Mark Henry vs The Shield

The Big Show and Dolph Ziggler look strongly involved in the corporation storyline, and after forcing Show to knock out Dusty Rhodes, Stephanie must have seriously made the big man lose his temper. Ziggler too has been actively involved with Ambrose and his United States title, but expecting them to fight again for the US title will only make the card repetitive. Plus, WWE’s previous plans of Big Show and Mark Henry taking on the Shield can come in handy now, with Henry coming out to support Show with his financial problems.

Adding a match like this can surely bring about a great amount of freshness to the card and allow it to stay a bit different from Night of Champions.

AJ Lee vs Natalya (Divas title match)

After successfully defending the title at NOC, AJ Lee has only one wrestler who is even close to being a credible challenger for her title. Natalya looked the strongest challenger of the three, but directed her skills at the wrong people in the match. After a double sharpshooter, she gave AJ the right opportunity to take advantage and retain her title.

The stare down between the two surely indicates that Natalya is a threat for AJ’s title. Expect this to be a great match between two Divas who are undoubtedly the best performers in the ring right now.

Tag Team No.1 Contender match

Since the Shield won’t be ready to defend their titles again at Battleground, the best way to keep all the tag team hopes alive is by working a Tag Team No.1 Contender match, just like the NOC pre-show. With the introduction of Los Matadores, soon we can expect a good addition to the list of tag teams fighting out for the No.1 contender match.

This match can then set up the feud between the Matadores and Real Americans, and allow the Prime Time Players to go ahead to become the No.1 contender.

An unexpected name just challenged Randy Orton RIGHT HERE.
