Looking forward: The Rhodes family saga

orton-vs-rhodes

Three Monday’s ago Cody Rhodes was in the ‘match of his life’. After he courteously, and respectfully, raised his voice against Triple H’s tyrannical power trip, he was ordered to fight for his job against Corporate Champion Randy Orton in return.

That turned out to be the match of the night and it seemed like it was the beginning of the authority’s to-do list of firing employees on air. But Goldust returned a week later to get his brother’s job back by taking on Orton, but he ended up losing as well, in what was also the match of the night, surprisingly.

Meanwhile, Dusty Rhodes returned to Monday night RAW this week and got KO’d by the Big Show. In what seemed like a stand-alone drama, it has extended to a three-week event; in turn escalating the intensity.

Though Cody’s impending marriage did not have much impact, his performance in the ring and the promo he cut backstage were heart-warming. His wedding did give us some spoilers, because in the non-fictional world his marriage is reported to take place on September 26th. And as far as tradition goes, a marriage is followed by a honeymoon. So suffice to say, he won’t be back till next month.

Triple H was instrumental in firing Cody, but Stephanie McMahon ended up humiliating both Goldust and the American Dream Dusty. As far as a Rhodes family and McMahon family is concerned, a feud seems unlikely as there are only two McMahons (if Triple H is not taken into the picture) actively involved with the company i.e. Stephanie and Vince.

Apart from a few verbal jabs a fight seems very unlikely. And Triple H’s involvement in ruing Daniel Bryan’s career is a much bigger storyline at the moment, and that could eventually lead to him facing Bryan just like Vince took on Stone Cold in the Attitude Era.

However, this drama that has continued in over three weeks seems to be holding something special for young Rhodes. All this will culminate into an emphatic return and will keep people excited and will build up to that one moment when he gets his revenge.

For a superstar – who has been fired by the authority – to return, either Rhodes has to sue the WWE fictionally or another authority figure has to hire him back. And there’s no one more apt than Mr. McMahon himself. All this seems to be a build up to a Triple H and Vince McMahon power struggle. And as Wrestlemania is a long time from now, Vince might not make an immediate move against The Game.

It is great to see that other than the Bryan storyline, this one is doing great as well. Both the matches that Cody and Goldust had with Orton, along with Stephanie’s segment with Dusty, were definitely a solid ‘A+’.
