The Shield

It was eight months ago, when The Shield interfered in the main event match at Survivor Series. The black clad vigilantes of justice wasted little time making a statement as they leaped over the barricade separating fans from the WWE superstars they loved to watch. The trio then ambushed Ryback, and triple power bombed him through the announce table after a vicious beating by the NXT upstarts.

The WWE Universe looked on in shock as the actions not only helped to lengthen the longest title reign of the decade, but also solidified The Shield as a vicious threat to any WWE superstar that stood in their way.

Eight months later, the once great trio now have suffered losses to both Team Hell No with Randy Orton, and Christian teaming up with The Usos in six-man tag team action. The losses show that The Shield is a far cry from the once great stable that struck fear in the eyes of other WWE superstars.

The matches, The Shield have won have come in the least convincing fashion possible for The Hounds of Justice. The most notable one was at WWE Payback, when Ambrose was only able to defeat Kane when the Big Red Monster couldn’t make it back to the ring before the count of ten.

Later that night when Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins put the tag team titles on the line against Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton, The Shield were only able to beat Orton and Bryan when Orton accidentally ran into Bryan while going for a RKO on Reigns. The distraction was enough for Reigns to spear Bryan, as Rollins nailed a high knee to the back of Bryan’s head to win the match.

With The Shield winning more and more by way of count out and by miscommunication by opposing teams, The Shield is building up a lot of heat as a heel stable, but looking a lot less dangerous by doing so. With that being said, it is virtually a safe bet that The Usos will be tag team champions come Money in the Back next week.

Even though that is a bold prediction and may just be a indication of getting ones hopes up, The Shield is obviously a lot weaker and disorganized after their loss to Christian and The Usos. The Shield even seemed to be pinning the blame on Dean Ambrose after the loss last week on Smackdown. The arguing, back and forth seems like a sign that The Shield is near its breaking point, and a split will soon be likely.

The split will not be immediate as the rift is weak and will need time to build until the trio ultimately go their separate ways. The Hounds of Justice will most likely split up after a well built-up storyline with the Brothers of Destruction at SummerSlam. Ending The Shield before that time seems impossible due to the fact that Undertaker hasn’t gotten his revenge for The Shield putting him out of action on Smackdown back in April by driving him through the fan barricade.

As for reviving the Tag Team Division, having The Usos as champions is only a temporary fix to what is really a huge problem for the WWE today. With Daniel Bryan on his way to the top of the heap in the WWE title picture, and a lot of the focus on building other storylines, the search is definitely on to find marketable characters to take the helm of the Tag Team division.

Again The Usos will only be a temporary fix to the problem. Although Jimmy and Jey have a lot of talent and potential inside the ring, the baby face team work angle can only work for so long before becoming stale to the viewing audience. The thing that sold the WWE Universe on Team Hell No for so long was the quirkiness and lack of teamwork that always seemed to help Kane and Daniel Bryan get the surprise victory. Without those traits, The Usos are going to be sitting atop a crumpling heap as the Tag Team Champions.
