The WWE recently announced that two of its superstars, Alberto Del Rio and Paige have both been suspended for violating the company's talent wellness policy. Following the announcement of their suspensions , it was speculated that they had both failed for the same drug since they are a real-life couple. However, Dave Meltzer reported on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that Del Rio and Paige were not suspended for the same thing.
Still, there is no official word from the WWE on what they have failed to, however, Paige’s mother, Saraya Knight, denied that cocaine was a factor when she was asked by a fan on twitter. The fan on twitter claimed that Dave Meltzer confirmed that it was cocaine, however, Meltzer refused and said that he never mentioned cocaine or any drug in reference. WWE does not publicly disclose what talents fail for.
It has been noted that Del Rio, one of the most acclaimed wrestlers of his generation, has been underutilised since his return to the company last year. The same could be said of Paige, who is a former champion and one of the most promising wrestlers in the women's division competing for the Raw brand.
With regards to their futures in WWE, Meltzer said that Paige still has years left on her current WWE contract, so unless she is released by WWE, she isn’t going anywhere for a while.
With regards to Del Rio, we noted that he may have a clause in his WWE contract which would allow him to leave the company sometime in September. Meltzer added there is a good chance Del Rio might leave once he can enact his out clause, and if that comes before his suspension ends, then we might have already seen the last of Del Rio in a WWE ring.
WWE has been very public about the suspensions it hands down for superstars violating the wellness policy. Recently, former World champion Roman Reigns was suspended for the same infraction.
WWE hasn't revealed specifics of the suspension but the policy focuses on keeping things drug-free. The wrestlers also haven't spoken about the suspensions, which were issued on Paige's 24th birthday. Also, both Del Rio and Paige have been very public about their personal activities and the suspension could add an extra level of intrigue to the whole situation.
