WWE RAW Results: May 27 2013

RAW was live tonight from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. To start off, WWE showed a Memorial day video package.

John Cena entered the ring to a mixed response from the crowd. He talked about how the match with Ryback ended at Extreme Rules and how they were going to face each other in a ‘Three Stages in Hell’ match. The three stages announced were Lumberjack match followed by a tables match and finally the ambulance match.

Ryback then came out only to initiate Goldberg chants. Ryback approved with the change in stipulation and asked Cena to get ready for the match at Payback.

Paul Heyman then comes out with his newest client Curtis Axel. The crowd broke into a ‘You S***’ chant. Heyman challenged Cena to a match against Curt Axel later the same night and Cena accepted.

Alberto Del Rio vs Big E Langston

A typical rubber match, though it had some action of its own. Big E looked in control the entire match despite some impressive moves from Del Rio. Big E powered out of Del Rio’s crossarm breaker, only to run into the turnbuckle that AJ exposed earlier in the match. Del Rio then pinned Big E for victory.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Dean Ambrose vs Kofi Kingston (US Title Match)

A good match between the two who started the match with a lot of trash talk. The momentum of the match was somewhat broken by a commercial in between. However, the match seemed to pick up a lot of pace and after two near falls for Kofi, Ambrose hit Kofi with his finisher to pick up the victory.

Winner: Dean Ambrose retained the US title

The Shied vs Team Hell No (Tag Team Title match)

Without doubt, it was the strongest contender for the match of the night and everyone could see it coming. The match had everything one would have expected including an irritating commercial break; an impressive back and forth match that told the story between the two teams perfectly. In the end, Reigns connected a mid-air spear on Bryan and Rollins hit Kane with a flying knee to the head to pick up the victory.

Winner: The Shield retained their Tag Titles

Wade Barrett vs Fandango

A very short match between the two after a few back and forth hits. Miz was the special guest referee voted by the fans on the WWE app. Barrett pushed Miz out of the ring, only to receive a skull crushing finale. Fandango pinned Barrett for the victory. Miz then kicked Fandango on the face as Summer Rae fell on him. Miz then pinned Fandango.

Winner: Wade Barrett

The Great Khali and Tons of Funk vs 3 MB

Filler match with 3 MB maintaining their jobber status well. The match ended when Clay connected the splash on Slater for the pin.

Winner: Khali and the Tons of Funk

Later, the trio celebrated Natalya’s birthday as the crowd sang Happy Birthday for her.

Chris Jericho Highlight Reel: Guest, Paul Heyman

Highlight Reel time and Jericho introduced Paul Heyman. The two talked about a few issues such as ECW and Brock Lesnar before Jericho brought out CM Punk. Heyman the put over Punk quite well while Jericho tried to prove otherwise. Later, Jericho challenged CM Punk for the match and Heyman accepted the challenge on Punk’s behalf.

Natalya and Kaitlyn vs The Bellas

Typical divas match with nothing much to offer. Kaitlyn speared Natalya by accident and The Bellas used this to get the pinfall.

Winner: The Bellas

Sheamus and Randy Orton vs Team Rhodes Scholars

It was a decent match that received a lot of justified time. I was glad to see Rhodes Scholars weren’t squashed. Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick on Sandow to pick up the victory.

Winner: Randy Orton and Sheamus

Curtis Axel with Paul Heyman vs John Cena

A solid match between the two as Axel remained in control most of the time. Cena kicked out of a perfectplex and was then distracted by Ryback who came out in an ambulance. Cena went out of the ring for Ryback to be counted out.

Winner: Curtis Axel

Cena found out that the Ambulance rode into the arena on its own as Ryback attacked Cena from behind. He positioned Cena to repeat the Extreme Rules finish but Cena escaped. Cena nearly hit the AA on Ryback as the latter managed to slither out and escape.
