5 signs that the Hardy Boyz will reunite in AEW

Is there a chance of Hardy Boyz reuniting in AEW?
Is there a chance of Hardy Boyz reuniting in AEW?

AEW fans could soon see the legendary Hardy Boyz reunite once again, it seems. In early December, Jeff Hardy was released from WWE. This came after the company sent him home after a "rough night" during a live house show event. Hardy then refused the option of rehab.

Jeff has famously struggled with drugs and alcohol in the past but has taken pride in his sobriety in recent years to the point where WWE began making Hardy's addiction issues part of his in-character storylines, something Hardy said in 2020 was "empowering."

The Charismatic Enigma even appeared on a recent episode of Stone Cold's Broken Skull Sessions on the WWE Network, where he talked about his intentions of facing Roman Reigns in a Universal Championship program. But it wasn't meant to be, and now AEW might benefit from Jeff reuniting with his brother Matt in Tony Khan's promotion. Here are 5 signs pointing to this possibility.

#5. Jeff Hardy appears on Matt Hardy's Twitch stream, teases potential match in AEW

Jeff Hardy made his first appearance since getting released from WWE when he appeared on his brother Matt's Twitch stream and took a hilarious jibe at his WWE release. Jeff also hinted that he wants to team up with Matt in an Ultimate Deletion match somewhere down the line. AEW seems to be the perfect platform to make this happen as Matt has carved a successful spot for himself as the leader of the Hardy Family Office. You can watch the stream HERE.

In an interview with Essentially Sports, the older Hardy also confessed that he fancies a match between Hardy Boyz and Sting and Darby Allin, who AEW fans consider a spiritual successor to the enigmatic Jeff:

"Sting has helped Darby Allin out so much, and they both help one another up. Darby’s youthful enthusiasm helps Sting out as well. I love them together as a team. I don’t know if one day sometime in the future the Hardy Boyz ever reform in AEW, I would love to do the Hardy Boyz versus Darby Allin and Sting."

Whether it's an Ultimate Deletion match opposite his brother or facing off against the duo of Sting and Allin, the potential dream matches for Jeff Hardy in AEW are mouth-watering.

#4. Opportunity to win Tag Titles in AEW, dream match with Lucha Bros

Joining AEW gives Jeff Hardy the chance to become a tag team champion once more with his brother Matt. Hardy Boyz has won championships in multiple promotions, from WWE to IMPACT Wrestling. AEW is a relatively new frontier and could be a great way for the brothers to further cement their legacy in the annals of tag team wrestling.

The current AEW Tag Team Champions are the Lucha Bros, who defeated The Young Bucks in an excellent Steel Cage match at All Out. Matt Hardy even broke character to lavish major praise on Lucha Brothers in a tweet earlier this year.

Jeff Hardy is one of the most well-accomplished tag team wrestlers, having won multiple titles in his career. If Jeff makes his way to AEW, chances are the brothers will fancy their chances of competing against the current best tag team wrestlers in the company.

#3. AEW allows Jeff Hardy to explore his Willow character

AEW fans might be excited to hear that Jeff Hardy has talked about bringing back his 'Willow' persona, which he created during his run in IMPACT Wrestling. The opportunity to explore his Willow alter ego is too good to pass up. He was recently quoted saying:

"Speaking of Willow, I was just talking to the guy who makes the mask, who made it back then, he’s an awesome mask maker and making a new Willow mask and talking about the possibility of Willow entering the scene once again before my career is over. There we go, it’s gonna happen.” (H/T to Fightful.com)

Bringing Willow to AEW allows Hardy to expand his character work and rest his body from unnecessary bumps if he were to just perform as his normal self.

#2. AEW commentator Jim Ross considers signing Jeff Hardy a no brainer

AEW commentator and wrestling legend Jim Ross is currently away from television to undergo treatment for skin cancer but is putting out regular episodes of his podcast.

While discussing WWE’s decision to release Jeff Hardy, Ross explained just how highly he regards Hardy Boyz as a team and how he would like to see the younger Hardy join the company and go on one more run as a tag team:

"I hope one day he's wrestling for AEW. It's a no-brainer. Can you imagine The Young Bucks and the Hardys? The Hardys and The Lucha Bros? The Hardys and FTR, the battle of North Carolina? I’m all about this stuff. There’s a year right there easy."
"When the lay of the land is conducive, Tony Khan has proven time and time again he’s got a great eye for talent and he’s still a fan. We don’t have to do it today, but somewhere down the road, that would be the thing to do, and it would help the tag team scene immensely."

JR's approval is a good sign as owner Tony Khan regards his opinion highly. The Hardys are the greatest team ever developed in WWE, according to the legendary announcer, and AEW can stand to benefit from their presence in the tag team division.

#1. AEW EVPs Young Bucks tweets about Jeff Hardy shortly after his release

AEW EVPs Matt and Nick Jackson consider Hardy Boyz their wrestling idols. In a previous interview with Sportskeeda, The Young Bucks talked about the influence they had on their careers, calling them the best tag team ever:

"It was an honor to wrestle guys we both look up to. We learned a lot wrestling them because they’re quite possibly the most successful and best tag team of all time! We’ve been very fortunate to learn from tag teams like the Hardy’s, the Dudley Boys, Briscoe brothers, Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels, as well as the Motor City Machine Guns."

Now that Jeff Hardy is a free agent, The Young Bucks have fuelled rumors on Twitter by changing their header to Hardy's face. Fans could be forgiven for getting excited and assuming that Hardy would make the move because his brother already works for the promotion. Matt reacted to the social media troll in good spirits:

"I love the @youngbucks constantly changing Twitter BIOS. They’re too good," tweeted Matt.

While the two tag teams have shared the ring before, it's still a dream match that will enhance both their legacies if it were to take place in AEW.
