MLB Power Rankings Predictions: Where do the top 10 teams stand in Week 8?

As the 2024 MLB season approaches the two-month mark, fans are finally getting a glimpse of what's now looking increasingly like a playoff picture. Nevertheless, some interesting and surprising storylines have also come about.

With Memorial Day just around the corner, we are going to issue some projections as to how MLB's standings might look upon the conclusion of week eight of the 2024 campaign.

Top Ten Teams | MLB Predictions Week 8

10. Chicago Cubs

Although offense has not been a strongsuit for the Chicago Cubs this season, manager Craig Counsell's club is finding a way to win games.

The team's +8 run differential is the lowest among all teams in the NL with a positive record. Versatile youngsters like Mike Tauchman and Michael Busch are also taking some of the pressure off of the big guns like Dansby Swanson and Christopher Morel.

9. Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers remain ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central by a pair of games. However, the team's pitching has not been as strong as it was in April.

Over the past seven days, Brewers pitchers have a combined 4.25 ERA, placing the team's pitching corps in the bottom third of the league. Still, hot bats like Willson Contreras and Christian Yelich will ensure the team remains in the top-10.

8. Kansas City Royals

Despite not putting forth a fantastic offensive season yet, the Kansas City Royals have been able to ride starting pitching quite far thus far. However, with the exception of Seth Lugo, starters like Cole Ragans, Brady Singer and Michael Wacha are starting to show signs of wear.

In terms of starting ERA, the Royals have dipped from tenth to sixteenth since last week. An upcoming series against the Oakland Athletics gives the club a chance to remain in the top-10.

7. Minnesota Twins

Although the Minnesota Twins' 12-game winning streak finally came to and end, manager Rocco Baldelli's club is still climbing quick. Now 24-20, the Twins are third in the AL Central.

Winning at Target Field remains a challenge, where the club is just .500 this year. The fortnight ahead is rife with divisional matchups, giving the Twins more chances to jump further ahead.

6. Cleveland Guardians

The youngest team in MLB continues to surpass expectations. The team's bullpen has been lights-out, boasting MLB's best ERA, and among the most innings pitched.

The aptitude of the bullpen has been a saving grace, as Cleveland hitters have batted just .202 in the past week. The good news is that the team will welcome the struggling New York Mets to Progressive Field next week, where the Guardians are 13-6.

5. New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have been able to exploit tremendous pitching with raw offensive power to become very successful this year. Now 31-15, the Bronx Bombers lead MLB's AL East division.

Their pitchers have been the best in baseball, and the team's 62 home runs tie them for second in MLB. After sweeping the Twins earlier this week, the Yankees will hope to pad their record even more with a weekend series against the struggling Chicago White Sox.

4. Los Angeles Dodgers

When your team players who lead the league in hits, home runs, and on-base percentage, you know they must be doing well.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani leads MLB in hits, home runs and batting average while Mookie Betts' .440 OBP tops the league in that category. Now 30-17 with no signs of slowing, we may soon witness the Dodgers run away with the NL West.

3. Baltimore Orioles

When it comes to raw power and offensive production, few MLB clubs can match the Baltimore Orioles.

The league leaders in home runs, Baltimore is 7-3 over their past 10. Moreover, the team's pitching is among the best and upcoming clashes with the Cardinals and White Sox will give hurlers even more chances to shine.

2. Philadelphia Phillies

After a relatively dormant April, the Philadelphia Phillies are back on the scene. Starting pitching has been exquisite, led by Ranger Suarez' 1.37 ERA and Zack Wheeler's 71 strikeouts, the Phillies are looking like a team ready to compete deep into October.

1. Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves were everyone's favorite to win the 2023 World Series, and are now near the top of the standings again.

Virtually unbeatable at home, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Co. are 15-6 at Truist Park in Atlanta. Upcoming series against the Padres and Cubs will give the Braves a chance to close the 3.5 game gap between them and the Phillies in the NL East.
