Jamal Murray plays for the Denver Nuggets as of January 2025. He helped the Nuggets win their first NBA championship in 2023. He is also part of the Canadian National Team and has played for them in the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the 2016 NBA Draft, Murray was selected with the seventh overall pick by the Denver Nuggets. On November 13, 2016, he recorded 19 points in a match against the Portland Trail Blazers. Murray was named on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in his first year. In his second season, Murray led the Nuggets to several victories. On January 22, 2018, he scored 38 points in a 104-101 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. He also had a 48-point game against the Boston Celtics.

In 2019, Murray signed a five-year deal with the Nuggets, worth approx. USD 158 million as per Spotrac. He continued to perform at a high level and often showed that he could be the difference maker in the playoffs. However, on April 12, 2021, Murray suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee while playing against the Golden State Warriors. He underwent a surgical procedure on his left knee on April 21 and the Denver Nuggets announced that he will miss the whole season. After missing more than a year off the court, Murray was quickly back to his best and helped the Denver Nuggets win their first NBA championship in 2023.

Jamal Murray initially attended Grand River Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, but later transferred to Orangeville Prep in Orangeville, Ontario, where his father worked as an assistant trainer. After his graduation, Murray attended the University of Kentucky in 2015 and played under coach John Calipari.

As a freshman, Murray played 36 games and averaged 20.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. His scoring average was the highest in Kentucky’s freshman records and he was named a third-team All-American by the Associated Press. After one season in college, he declared for the 2016 NBA draft.
