In 2018, he was recognized as a McDonald's All-American and later committed to playing college basketball at Louisiana State University (LSU). In March 2023, Naz Reid suffered a left wrist injury at the 8:36 minute mark of the fourth quarter during a game against the Phoenix Suns as per the NBA. The injury occurred when Reid fell hard on his wrist while attempting a dunk. Despite the pain, he managed to shoot two free throws before being subbed out of the game.

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) taken the next day at Mayo Clinic Square by Dr. Kelechi Okoroha revealed a left scaphoid fracture. The Timberwolves announced that Reid would be out, and he eventually underwent surgery, sidelining him for about 10 days from March 31, 2023, to April 09, 2023, during which he missed 5 last games of the 2022-2023 basketball regular season as per Basketball Reference.

According to Basketball Reference, Reid also missed the 2023 playoffs.
