Wardell Stephen "Dell" Curry was born on June 25, 1964. He is a former professional basketball player who played in the NBA. He played in the NBA from 1986 until 2002. He eventually retired as the all-time leader in points (9,839) and three-point field goals made (929) for the Charlotte Hornets. Born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Curry was a four-year starter at Virginia Tech. Curry was named the player of the year in the Metro Conference in his senior season in 1986. While in college, Curry's accurate long-range shooting was not rewarded, as prior to the 1986–87 season, NCAA basketball did not feature a three-point line, although it was introduced in many conferences at varying distances. His shooting accuracy is something that fans get to see in both his sons, Steph and Seth. Curry also played baseball for Virginia Tech and was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 14th round of the 1985 MLB draft, but opted to continue playing basketball. With 2,389 points (second all-time) and 295 steals (all-time leader), Curry finished his Virginia Tech basketball career, and in baseball, he had a 6–1 record with a 3.81 ERA. During his time at Virginia Tech, he was honored as a member of the Sports Hall of Fame in 1996, his first year of eligibility.

In the 1986 NBA draft, Curry was selected as the 15th overall pick by the Utah Jazz. He played one season in Utah, and in 1987, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. With the Cavs, he spent the 1987–88 season. For the 1988–89 season, he was selected by one of the NBA's two newest teams, the Charlotte Hornets, in the expansion draft after he was made available by the Cavaliers. With the Hornets, Curry spent 10 seasons, mostly coming off the bench to provide instant offense, utilizing three-point shooting. He won the Sixth Man of the Year in the 1993-94 season. He was once the franchise's all-time statistical leader in points, games played, three-point field goals made and attempted, and three-point field goal percentage. Curry played one season for the Milwaukee Bucks and his final three seasons with the Toronto Raptors. He holds career averages of 11.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. With 9,839 points, Curry retired as the all-time leading scorer for the Hornets. Curry works as a commentator on Charlotte Hornets television broadcasts. As of April 2025, Curry’s father is 60 years old.

Sonya Alicia Curry was born on May 30, 1966, in Redford, Virginia. She played volleyball, track and field, and basketball in high school. She also attended Virginia Tech, where she was a student-athlete. It was there that she met her future husband, Dell. She played volleyball and, as a junior, earned all-conference honors in the Metro Conference. Sonya made the Virginia Tech women’s volleyball team largely popular. While she played with the junior team, she served 57 aces in a specific season, which was the sixth-largest number of aces served in the history of Virginia Tech. At the end of her fourth year, she went on to set a record score of 69-70. The volleyball gene runs in the family, as her youngest child, daughter Sydel, also played college volleyball.

She graduated from college with a degree in education and currently works as an educator. She owns and operates the Montessori School located in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the school's president, which she and Dell founded in 1995. While she attends her sons’ games, Sonya is often interviewed about how she successfully raised professional athletes, and she mentions she feels proud and blessed by what her children have accomplished. Sonya Curry grew up in a poor community. While growing up, she and her family had come across many racist experiences and once saw a Ku Klux Klansman light a cross on fire. She mentioned in a previous interview that it was through sports that she found a way to overcome the racism she experienced. It was these experiences with racism that she turned into lessons for her children. As of April 2025, she is 58 years old.
