The edition in 2022 is going to be like the one in 2011, where 10 teams battled it hard to get to the knockout stage and test the strength of the stirred up teams.
The Indian Premier League was initiated in the year 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The inaugural edition saw 8 teams playing a double round robin league stage followed by the semi-finals and final.
A big change in the format is that the top four teams in the IPL 2022 points table play the ‘Playoffs’ that have replaced the traditional ‘semi-final and final’ knockouts. The IPL score is available when the match goes on everyday.
The big change that the tournament will have to the traditional 8-team format is now there will be no double round robin stage due to the sheer length of the tournament. All teams will still be playing 14 games each - twice against five teams and once against the remaining four.
As mentioned earlier, 10 franchises will be competing in IPL 2022. Below is the detailed list of all IPL team owners and their respective sponsors.
