Jose Brasa: I still follow the progress of the Indian national hockey team

Former Indian national hockey team coach, Jose Brasa claimed that he still follows the progress of Indian hockey closely. It was almost a year ago when Brasa left the post but he insisted that the good relationship between him and the players remains unperturbed.

“I had a very good relationship with the players. I still follow the team’s progress”

India, who are currently battling in the Champions Challenge Hockey tournament under Michael Nobbs in Johannesburg, where they have notched up 4 points from their first two matches against Belgium and South Africa. Having witnessed them score seven goals past the host nation yesterday, Brasa clearly had nothing but praises for them.

“It’s good to see they have beaten South Africa who are stronger than any of the teams they will be facing in the qualifiers.”

Current coach Michael Nobbs is a man seen to be going against the style of play that the Spaniard employed during his time with the Indian team. Recently, Nobbs also claimed that the World Series Hockey, would be detrimental towards India’s chances of qualifying for the London Olympics. However, Brasa was quick to brush off the style issue, while rejecting the claims made by Nobbs on the WSH as well.

“The team has come up the rankings under me as coach. Each coach has his own style. It’s up to Nobbs to impart his style of coaching,” he said.

“As for the WSH, Indian players will get enough time to prepare for the qualifiers as the event ends on January 22. Besides, the WSH will give an opportunity to Indian players to compete with the world’s best”

As for the Champions Challenge Hockey tournament, India will next face Poland on the 29 of November. Stay tuned with us on Sportskeeda for more updates.
