Supreme Court orders Hockey India elections

Supreme Court India

Supreme Court of India has allowed Hockey India to go ahead with the elections but has asked them to hold the decisions until the final verdict is out.

In this manner, Supreme Court has given lifeline to Indian hockey and its fans as the Federation of International Hockey was threatening to suspend the Indian team for not being able to conduct the elections within a stipulated time period.

The problem for Hockey India arose when Delhi High Court asked them not to conduct elections. After that Bombay High Court also gave the same decision and also asked government to stay away from the polls.

The problem concerning Indian hockey is, two legal bodies running the game. IHF and HI.

Delhi High Court has said that Hockey India is a private body while Indian Hockey Federation is the recognized body of the sport. But according to Ministry of Sports, both the bodies are recognized.

Joint Secretary (Sports), Injeti Srinivas appeared before the court and said that the HI is also a government recognised body. The government who had a major role to play in this scenario is not doing anything to solve this dispute.

With the FIH threat looming over the face of Indian hockey, the supreme court has taken a good step and has perhaps saved the country from embarrassment.

Now with a fresh date, Hockey India elections will be back…

And as the say, let the best man (Pargat Singh) win….
