All the build-up ahead of this contest centered around David Warner taking on SRH after that fallout last season. This man loves a redemption arc alright and he's done it yet again. A crucial win for the Delhi Capitals but they need to get into a good run now given the logjam taking place in the middle of the team. Three teams now find themselves with 10 points from as many games, which is why DC will be itching to pocket a couple more when they lock horns with the struggling Chennai Super Kings on Sunday (May 8) in Navi Mumbai. As for the Sunrisers, they need to snap this three-game losing streak immediately and they'll have to do so against a team they can take inspiration from to that end - the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both those teams will face off on Sunday afternoon at the Wankhede Stadium.

David Warner is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 92 off 58 deliveries.

Hear from the man himself: I think when you rock up and look at the wicket, it was a nice wicket tonight. You know it's going to be nice and true and I've obviously had some success here. I knew if I was going to hit the gaps it was going to come off and fortunately it did. Obviously it's challenging here with the humidity in Mumbai. I was cooked there towards the back end - I'm getting older but Powell's got some real power. (Extra motivation playing SRH?) I didn't need extra motivation - we've all seen what's happened in the past before. Just happy to get the win. Man he (Powell) hits them clean - even Liam Livingstone the other day, 117 metres. These guys are hitting them real big. I'm getting a bit older - I need to keep hitting the gym. (On the improv shot off Bhuvneshwar) I thought he was going to bowl the yorker but I tried to turn. I keep practicing right-handed in the nets. I always tried to go right-handed and reverse it but then I adjusted. I thought probably 190 was a par score and I told Powell that if we're there towards the end we could even get 210-220. (His family will be pleased surely?) I hope they still aren't awake but they will be pleased. But I still didn't get the hundred jeez; I'll leave that to Jos (Buttler; laughs).

Rishabh Pant (Winning Captain): I think there is always room to improve but this was as close to the perfect match for us as a batting unit. I was calm because in these kind of run chases, the team needs 18-20 runs off every over. I was talking to the bowlers and telling them to keep bowling good deliveries and let them try hitting it. The way Warner batted and paced his innings, it was one of the best innings I've seen over a period of time for Delhi. (On Powell wanting to bat at 5) I don't mind having one or two conversations here or there because at the start he wasn't getting enough runs but now he's going really well. Every match is important for us but we're just looking to take it one game at a time. (On his wicket) I was batting fine but at the end of the day I can't prepare for something like it. I was out off a full toss and that's part and parcel of the game. Another day I might hit that for a four or six. Good win and an important win for us.

Anrich Nortje: Just a relief to be out in middle, to be honest. Nice to be playing and nice to get into some rhythm. Nets have been alright but it's just nice to be playing again. You need to set realistic standards. It's been a while since getting out and playing a game, which is completely different just bowling in the nets. It's about getting the basics right is quite important for me. Since the last game, been working a lot on my rhythm and now, need to focus on a bit of skill coming into this game. For now, just happy to be out there and feel like myself in a way. He's (Khaleel) been bowling really whole tournament, everyone has been bowling well. In certain stages, we gonna get hit. It's hard to protect the short side every time and it becomes a little predictable, but I think the boys bowled really well at the end under pressure which is nice to see. Just have to clear about your next ball. You can't be in two minds. You might get hit either way but the best chance of succeeding is to keep your mind clear and focus on committing whatever you are thinking about.

Kane Williamson: They had a fantastic total. Having said that, as a batting unit you always want that belief. That was there. It's a pretty small ground and there was a little bit of dew. If he had a couple of wickets in hand, who knows. For us, it's a matter of going back to the drawing board a little bit, keeping things really simple. We were put under a lot of pressure and allowed them to get to an outstanding total. An outstanding knock from Warner and Powell at the end, two great contributions to get them to a solid total. (On Umran Malik) It's a fantastic learning opportunity, really. You're up against some of the best on pretty good surfaces where there's a lot of learning to be done. He's a fantastic find and offers so much. Having said that, we've been under pressure as a group. It's a young side but it's a great opportunity for us to move forward and learn when you do come up against the best. That will be important for us. There's still a few games left and if we can keep putting things together, things can change quickly. (On Pooran and Markram) They've come out and played with the rhythm, which has been amazing for us in the middle order. You want to throw some contributions and partnerships around it. We've been getting close with some chases. Maybe we could have restricted them a bit and scored more with the bat, but otherwise, those two have been outstanding and hopefully, they can continue that. (On his own game) It's always nice to have a few runs. Just looking to work hard and play a role for the team as well as you can. It's important to stay patient and commit to my game. It's one of those things in a long tournament. Every team is strong. It's just committing to what's important and trying to make contributions to the team moving forward.

It was far too many in the end to the Sunrisers' liking. Of course, chasing 208 is not beyond the realms of possibility in this format, but when you're 48/3 at the end of 9 overs, it's always about that one wicket or two that slams the door shut on a surge as well.

And that's exactly what transpired too! Kane Williamson's season didn't get any better with a painstaking 11-ball 4 signaling a tough time ahead for the Sunrisers. Mind you, the likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Mitchell Marsh bowled outstandingly well and due credit must be given to them for the same, even as Rahul Tripathi too endured an uncharacteristically rusty stay in the middle.

The chase was never on really in the first half of this essay. And the fact that the game even got close thereafter was thanks to an outstanding comeback on the part of Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram. The asking rate was well over 15 at one stage and every over had to go big. The duo tried their level best and even after Markram and Shashank Singh's departure, Pooran raced along and clobbered some massive hits for fun.

Rishabh Pant went for the kill, bowling out Anrich Nortje before any other bowler. Clearly, it was Pooran's wicket that the Capitals were after and once the West Indian fell for 62 off a high-ish full toss that was confirmed to be a fair delivery by the TV umpire, the writing was on the wall for the Sunrisers.

Eventually, it may not have been a pounding but the fact remains that SRH have lost three on the trot. The Capitals have pipped them on net run-rate and gosh, it's cramming up in the middle of the table alright. This tournament is well and truly heating up with the business end lying ahead!

Some funky strokeplay attempted towards the end by Gopal but all to no avail. Kuldeep picks up a wicket in that final over and eventually, given the wretched start they endured, it was too far a stretch for the Sunrisers who go down for the third consecutive time this season. Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 21 runs!
