That's it from me (Sameer Deodhar) and my colleague, Pratyush Rohra, from the first Test between England and Sri Lanka. Don't forget to join for the second Test match in four days time, from January 22 at the same venue! Until then, goodbye and take care of yourselves!
Man of the match and England captain, Joe Root : To come here with the little preparation we had and the manner we played this game, it was really impressive. I thought it was a great effort, when not a lot fell for us yesterday but we worked extremely hard and for the two spinners to come out with two five-for's is a brilliant effort, especially with the little cricket they've played as well coming into a series like this, the pressure was on in a series like this and it's a testament to their character and the whole bowling group in general, to perform how we did after Lunch, it was a very good effort. Good start to the tour, we're looking to get better but we're really pleased.

There's still more to come for this group and the most important thing is that we have the attitude coming into the next match and the winter tour that is to come.

The thing that pleased me the most about my own innings was my mindset. I think I got into a really good place the other day, managed to keep my feet apart and get forward and back really well and had a good balance between attack and defense, which I didn't waywar from it throughout, which probably at times people have been critical of and looking to convert starts, it's nice to go on and make a really big one. Did a lot of talking before the game, so it's nice to follow it up.
Sri Lankan skipper, Dinesh Chandimal :  We were outplayed in the first innings with the bat and ball. As a batting unit, you have to make runs in the first innings especially at Galle, you have to get a big total as the pitch doesn't cause much trouble and that's what basically cost us the game. The credit goes to Thirimanne, Kusal, Angelo, I think everything did their bit with the bat in the second innings and if we had 70-80 runs more, it could have been a different story. Anyway, we have to get positives out of this and we're looking forward to the next one.
Jonny Bairstow : Very tough for me, different story yesterday when we went to bat, the ball jumped in and out and it was tricky, we saw going forward it was bouncing and played off the backfoot as much as possible. The mindset was to go out and keep busy with the outfield being slow, batsman have to run hard between the wickets and that's exactly what the plan was.
England take the lead in the series with a dominating victory in the first Test over the hosts! Lawrence and Bairstow have chipped off the target on the final day in just 10.2 overs! The latter had kept the Sri Lankans at bay in a short target of just 74 runs in the fourth innings. There was nothing in the pitch on Day 5 and the Lankan bowlers looked extremely ordinary with the bowling.

The bowlers are not to be blamed wholly as it were the Sri Lankan batsmen that allowed the game to shift in England's favour in the first two sessions of the Test match after being bowled out for a paltry 135. There was no chance that they were going to recover from that against this England side. Joe Root ensured that there was no batting collapse in their first innings guiding the team to a huge score of 421 with his record second double century in Test cricket as captain.

The Sri Lankans showed grit with the bat in the second innings and ensured that the match went into the fifth day by posting 359 on a pitch that had started to crumble. Thanks to Lahiru Thirimann's century and fifties from Kusal Perera and Angelo Mathews, the home side could scale the large trail and then set a target of 74 for the hosts. Nothing much to add their, just that the England spin twins are not to be forgotten as they have made history by picking a fifer each in the Test match!

The Sri Lankan team management is left with a question on what would have happened had they batted sensibly in the first innings and the Englishmen will be taking the 1-0 lead without much thought!
24.2 Dilruwan Perera to Johnny Bairstow, FOUR! THAT'S THE WIN FOR ENGLAND! Good length delivery on middle stump, Bairstow gets on one knee to sweep it past the fielder at square leg to finish things off with a boundary!

England win the match by 7 wickets.
24.1 Dilruwan Perera to Johnny Bairstow, short of a length quicker through the air, punched off the back foot to the fielder at mid wicket
England 2 runs away from a lead in the Test series!
