Over the course of the past several decades, WWE has given us a long string of memorable storylines and matches, some of which would go down in history as the absolute best. It isn't exactly a secret that pro-wrestling is scripted and is similar to a soap opera. WWE employs a team of writers who churn out content on a regular basis, which is later turned into storylines and matches that play out in front of millions of fans on TV.

There have been certain instances though where what happened in and out of the squared circle wasn't planned beforehand and took place due to unforeseen circumstances.

In the following slideshow, we will take a look at five big moments that took place in WWE, that were actually unscripted.

#5 Chris Jericho punches Shawn Michaels' wife

Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho feuded on the Road to WrestleMania 19, back in 2003. The eventual match was an instant classic and fans were left wanting more. The two went on to engage in a memorable feud five years later. It began when Jericho got involved in Batista and Michaels' feud after the latter had retired Batista's mentor Ric Flair at WWE WrestleMania 24.

Michaels ended up getting an eye injury that was inflicted by Jericho on an episode of WWE RAW. At SummerSlam 2008, Michaels came out with his wife and announced that he was retiring from pro-wrestling. Suddenly, Jericho came out and things turned ugly pretty soon. Jericho tried to punch Michaels, who ducked and the punch accidentally landed on his wife's face.

Jericho had connected the punch harder than he was supposed to and said that there was a lot of animosity towards him behind the scenes for what he did. This segment kicked off a rivalry that lasted for months, with Michaels eventually exacting revenge on Jericho.

At WWE WrestleMania 33, the pre-show saw 33 men battling it out in the squared circle to determine the fourth Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner. In the end, it seemed like Jinder Mahal would win the whole thing. Mahal got cocky and verbally attacked the now-former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who was sitting at ringside and cheering for his friend, WWE Superstar Mojo Rawley.

Gronk left his seat and proceeded towards the ring but was immediately stopped by a security guard. The guard wasn't filled in on the spot and seemingly took Gronkowski for an unruly fan who was trying to cause trouble. Other personnel quickly approached the guard and let Gronk enter the ring.

He went inside and shoved Jinder, aiding Mojo in winning the annual free-for-all. Thankfully, everything went ahead as planned in the end, and Gronk celebrated with Mojo following the latter's victory.

#3 Brock Lesnar punches Braun Strowman for real

Brock Lesnar was still the Universal Champion when the Road to WWE WrestleMania 34 kicked off. At the 2018 WWE Royal Rumble PPV, Lesnar faced Braun Strowman and Kane in a Triple Threat Match for the Universal title. This battle of the behemoths was expected to be full of some hard-hitting and big spots, but no one had imagined that the match would soon turn into a shoot at one point.

In the midst of the match, Strowman and Lesnar were in the ring and the former landed a brutal knee on The Beast's head. The WWE Universal Champion wasn't happy at what had just happened and decided to return the favor immediately.

Lesnar ended up punching Strowman hard in the head as if he was inside a UFC ring. Soon after, Strowman revealed what happened backstage between him and Lesnar after the match had come to an end. The Monster Among Men said that he approached Lesnar and the duo laughed it off.

We laughed about it afterwards. It is what it is. We got to the back and I said ‘Hey, my bad’ and he said the same thing and we went about our business.

#2 Daniel Puder takes it too far with Kurt Angle

Back in late 2004, WWE legend Kurt Angle challenged the finalists of Tough Enough to a squat thrust competition. At one point during the segment, Angle hit a double leg takedown on Chris Nawrocki, thus breaking his ribs. Daniel Puder came up next, with Angle succeeding in taking Puder down.

Puder locked Angle in a Kimura Lock in the process and attempted a pin. The referee quickly went for the three count, even though the rookie's shoulders were not fully down. Angle could be seen talking to Puder immediately after the pin and he certainly didn't seem in a good mood.

Puder's act of defiance probably cost him his WWE career. In the 2005 Royal Rumble match, Puder received several hard chops to the chest from Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and Hardcore Holly. He was then quickly eliminated from the free-for-all and was never used again on the main roster. The Miz, who had lost to Puder in the finals, went on to become a major star in WWE.

The ending to the 2005 WWE Royal Rumble match saw two top stars battling it out to determine the WrestleMania 21 headliner. In the end, both Batista and John Cena landed on the floor at the same time. The original plan was for Batista to eliminate Cena and win the whole thing. As a bunch of officials argued over who had won the match, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon came strutting down to the ring to clear up the confusion.

As he was about to enter the ring, he blew both of his quads. Vince immediately sat down in the ring as soon as the unfortunate incident happened. He was in a lot of pain but didn't let the audience know about the same. The WWE owner quickly told the referees that the match would be restarted between Cena and Batista. The original plan was followed to the T this time around, as Batista eliminated Cena to win the whole thing. Vince somehow managed to leave the ring and head backstage without any assistance.
