Batista-Del Rio feud: Does Batista deserve a better opponent on his WWE return?

Batista

“The Animal” Batista will be back in the WWE in a week’s time, and as it appears Batista’s first opponent on his return would be “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio. These two have been involved in an online rivalry on Twitter, with one of Batista’s tweets causing backroom heat in the WWE. It isn’t clear if this ‘tweet war’ is scripted or not.

How’s the rivalry shaping?

On Raw, Del Rio said that he has been sick with all the attention Batista is receiving, and promised to eliminate “The Animal” in the Royal Rumble match, after Batista’s inclusion in the match was announced. To this Batista replied on Twitter: “So I hear Alberto Del Rio is talking trash. Just one question… Who the hell is Alberto Del Rio?!!!”

Against Batista’s insult came Del Rio’s reply with a reference to Batista’s debut MMA match (which he actually won by defeating Vince Lucero via TKO) : “I’m the one wining all the major titles while u were getting ur ass kick by your plumber (Vince lucero) See u at the rumble… Like we say in #Mexico U can buy muscles but U can’t buy Huevos cabron.”

Batista then responded saying: “Seems 2 me that some C level stars in a B level star era have bought into their own hype. Don’t turn a work into a shoot. #realitycheck.” He later deleted this tweet, which has been reported by PWInsider as the reason for the backstage heat on Batista. What the locker room also didn’t like is the way WWE is giving rarely-appearing superstars like Batista and Brock Lesnar a direct shot at the main event matches and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Anyway, the rivalry has started off well, with both of them taking the heat to Twitter as well, it’s uncertain if the Twitter part is scripted or not. Still, to many this rivalry isn’t looking promising at all, and here comes the question “does Batista deserve more?”

Should there be someone else in Del Rio’s place?

Many thought that Batista’s first feud on his return would be with someone like Brock Lesnar or The Undertaker. A feud with someone like them would have made Batista’s return even more exciting. But, the point is that a big feud like Batista-Lesnar or Batista-Undertaker cannot take place so soon, in January, when WrestleMania XXX is going to happen in April.

All of the fans want to see Batista wrestle against the likes of Brock Lesnar, but it’s important that he first defeats one of the current best superstars, to re-establish himself as a top superstar, with the former World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto serving as a great challenger. Once Batista gets a win over a top wrestler like Del Rio, then he will be eligible to go for the biggest superstars in the industry, at WrestleMania.

What WWE is doing is that they are putting Batista in a feud with a top heel like Alberto Del Rio, with the possible outcome of a win for Batista. This outcome would be a win-win situation for both the wrestlers involved and the WWE. Batista will get the desired win over a top star which would help him in his push, and losing to a great superstar in Batista won’t affect Del Rio’s stature in the WWE. So, for the time being Del Rio is the right choice as Batista’s rival.

Can Del Rio pose a serious challenge to Batista?

Alberto is usually considered boring with a lack of connection with the fans, but despite all of this he is a great wrestler and will give Batista a run for his money. Alberto’s great in-ring skills can be seen in his high-quality matches with Rob Van Dam, Dolph Ziggler, Christian and John Cena from last year and you can expect him to deliver well against “The Animal.”

What could happen in the Royal Rumble match is that Batista eliminates some mid-card wrestlers and then he comes face-to-face with Alberto and both then wrestle each other. The outcome would be Batista eliminating the 2011 Rumble winner, this would give Batista his basic push in his second WWE run and would also spice up his feud with Del Rio.

So, if you are upset about this feud, then don’t be, because these two will deliver more than expected and soon you will see Batista lock horns with someone as big as, or maybe Brock Lesnar himself.
