Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown expressed his sadness with Markelle Fultz's trade to the Orlando Magic.

The 76ers moved on from 2017 number one NBA draft pick Fultz on Thursday after dealing the 20-year-old to the Magic.

Fultz had a tumultuous time in Philadelphia where he dealt with a hitch in his jump shot, injuries and a fair amount of underachievement.

Despite a lot of the negativity surrounding Fultz, Brown lamented the guard's exit from Philadelphia.

"I'd be lying if I didn't [say I felt] sad," Brown told reporters before Friday's clash with the Denver Nuggets.

"And it was two emotions I felt, sad personally, selfishly I suppose that I never really felt like I got a chance to coach him. I never really felt like the city got a chance to see him. I felt sad for that.

"And I was pleased for him that, you know, he had a new start, he had a fresh start, another opportunity."

Fultz has been sidelined since November 19 and was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome in mid-December. He is averaging 8.2 points and 3.1 assists in 19 appearances in 2018-19.

The 76ers acquired Jonathan Simmons in the deal for Fultz along with a couple of draft picks and now have one of the more formidable line-ups in the Eastern Conference.
