Jay Huff is a center for the Memphis Grizzlies. Standing at 7 feet 1 inch, Jay Huff whose full name is James Matthew Huff is known for his strong defense and stretch-5 abilities, as he is capable of knocking down shots from the perimeter. Born on August 25, 1997, in Durham, North Carolina, Jay Huff attended Voyager Academy in Durham, where he became the school's all-time leading scorer. As a four-star recruit, he played college basketball at the University of Virginia from 2017 to 2021. During his time at Virginia, Huff was a key part of the team that won the NCAA championship in 2019. He was named to the Second-team All-ACC in 2021 and was also selected to the ACC All-Defensive Team that same year.

Despite his strong college career, Huff went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. He then began his professional career with the Los Angeles Lakers and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers where he played from 2021 to 2023. In the 2022-23 G League season with the South Bay Lakers, Jay Huff averaged 15.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 3.5 blocks in 27.7 minutes per game, shooting 62.2% from the field and 38.0% from three-point range. Huff's terrific 2022-23 G League campaign earned him several honors, including the NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, a spot on the All-NBA G League First Team, and on the NBA G League All-Defensive Team. He was also the NBA G League blocks leader in 2023. In July 2024, Huff signed with the Memphis Grizzlies.
