Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s skills and abilities as a point guard are simply remarkable. He was drafted 11th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in 2018 and was traded to the LA Clippers the same day. Gilgeous-Alexander entered the NBA after a stellar freshman season with the University of Kentucky, a college known for producing some of the most talented basketball players.

After a respectable rookie season with the Clippers, Gilgeous-Alexander was traded to the OKC Thunder, where he is the starting point guard. In the 2023-24 season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2 steals per game in 75 games played as per Basketball Reference.

Coming out of High School, he was a four-star recruit and received offers from top colleges like Syracuse, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Florida, and others. After careful consideration, Gilgeous-Alexander committed to Kentucky in November 2016 and enrolled on June 1, 2017.

Playing under Coach John Calipari, Gilgeous-Alexander wasted no time in becoming a standout player for his college team, averaging 14.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in 37 games played. He shot an impressive 48.5% from the field and 40.4% from 3-point range as per Sports Reference.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s gameplay was fast but relied on the basics. At 6 feet 6 inches tall (1.98 meters), he has excellent ball-handling skills, can shoot off the dribble, has great court vision, and can also defend the perimeter.
