Weekly SK Cricket social round-up: March 13 to March 19

The Indian skipper often takes to social media to spread social awareness

The world of social media carries a storyline of its own pertaining to the action that transpires on and off the cricket field. With most cricketers being active members of several social media platforms, discussions, banter, and arguments happen to be a daily dose for a social butterfly.

There has been a gradual increase in web audience in the past few years, and people now find it convenient to follow their cricketing heroes on the web rather than on print or the television.

Tapping into the vast parallel world that runs in front of us, on mobiles and laptops, we bring you the weekly dose of cricket that took place on social media.

#1 David Warner’s adorable video

The Australian batsman and vice-captain David Warner is surely a tough character on the field, but off the field, he is known to be one of the humblest human beings. It is in the common knowledge of fans that Warner is a complete family man. He posted a video on Twitter of what happened after his cute daughter saw her father’s poster at a shop in Australia.

Spotting her dad, the little girl immediately ran towards the photo and gave it a hug.

Warner’s family was in India with the Australian team in the first half of the on-going Border-Gavaskar series before they left for home last week. He is expected to return to India for the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League next month.

#2 MS Dhoni’s daughter learning the names of Indian cities

Former Indian captain, MS Dhoni is a doting father. Every once in a while he posts videos with his little daughter Ziva Dhoni on social media. In a recent post on his Instagram account, the 2-year old is seen learning the names of the teams in the Indian Premier League.

Sakshi Dhoni, as the voice in the video seems, is spelling out the names which the little one repeats and nails it completely! We especially love how she pronounces Kol-ka-ta.

Earlier on Valentine’s Day, Dhoni posted a video of him crawling on the ground with his daughter.

#3 Virat Kohli’s Holi post on animal awareness

While most cricketers posted colorful pictures on Holi to wish their fans, the Indian skipper had some other ideas. Kohli took to Twitter on Monday (day of Holi) to wish his fans and followers a Happy Holi with a video which contained an important message, “Happy Holi everybody. Have a great day today. Please make sure no harm is done to the animals on the streets. God Bless all.”

In the video, he requested not to “humiliate any animals on the streets.”

“Don’t throw water on them, don’t throw any balloons or colours at them. It’s very important that their safety is also looked after. At the same time, enjoy yourselves and enjoy this great festival. I wish you all a great day.”

#4 Yuvraj Singh’s must-watch slow motion dance

Stylish Indian left-handed batsman, everyone’s favorite ‘Yuvi’, shared a video of his slow motion dance and expressions on Twitter, to wish his fans a happy holi!

"Holi Expressions what are yours? A very happy holi everyone hope you guys had a fun and safe Holi #HappyHoli #HoliHai #besafe," Yuvraj Singh wrote on his Twitter account along with the video.

#5 Irfan Pathan’s selfie with brother Yusuf Pathan

After going unsold in the Indian Premier League Auctions, Irfan Pathan was selected as the skipper for the Baroda team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He led his team to the quarter-finals of the prestigious 50 overs tournament, before Tamil Nadu got a better of them.

After Baroda’s exit from the competition, Irfan posted a picture with brother Yusuf on Twitter, both of whom play in the same team.
