Alright then, with the group stage done and dusted, we head to Carrara for The Qualifier on Friday. It will be Brisbane Heat hosting Sydney Sixers for a direct spot in The Final. Do not forget to join us for that one, friends! For now, this is the pair of Rudransh and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
20:45 hrs local time, 15:15 hrs IST: Unfortunately, with the persistent rain in Sydney, the final match of the group stage between the Thunder and the Renegades has been abandoned without a ball being bowled. Both teams share the points but don't change their positions in the ladder. While the team from Melbourne finish seventh, the team from Sydney end their disappointing campaign, eighth in the table. We also bid Shaun Marsh goodbye! Such a shame that he could not get to play today but that's how it goes we suppose.
19:30 ground time; 14:00 IST: Still raining, folks.
Reportedly, it's pelting down in Sydney which means we might be in for some delay for the toss.
Hello and welcome to Sportskeeda's live coverage of the final match of the BBL 2023-24 league stage between the Sydney Thunder and the Melbourne Renegades at the Sydney Showground Stadium. I (Rudransh) and my co-commentator Bidipto will take you through every bit of ball-by-ball action from the middle.
There's no such thing as a dead rubber in crick... who am I kidding? This is a dead rubber as posthumous as they come. With the top four already decided, and the fans having witnessed a body-shaking last-ball thriller the previous night, the match between the two bottom placed teams will need to produce something extraordinarily good or extraordinarily bad for it to catch the eye-balls. Given how these two teams have went about their business, neither of that can be ruled out.
The Thunder, despite having firepower in all departments, have just not quite got going. The fact that their batting didn't click despite David Warner's return is a testament to how it has gone for them. The Renegades have had so many ups and downs. The wins they have got, like against the Stars the other night, have showed that they are much better than they have let on in the defeats.
Both teams would just want a win for their fans and to end the season on a high.
