Dak Prescott has been the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys franchise of the NFL since 2016. Leading the team in its ninth season, Prescott has managed to guide the Cowboys to the postseason five times as of August 2024. Born in Sulphur, Louisiana, on July 29, 1993, as the youngest of three siblings, Prescott attended Haughton High School in Louisiana and played for the school’s football team. He then went to Mississippi State University, where he became the starting quarterback for the Mississippi State Bulldogs in 2013. He had 9,376 passing and 2,521 rushing yards to go along with 70 passing and 41 rushing touchdowns against 23 interceptions in his college career.

After entering the NFL in 2016, Prescott was immediately put into action from week 1 due to an injury to the then Cowboys’ starting signal caller, Tony Romo. Prescott performed admirably as a rookie and led the team to a 13-3 record with over 3,600 passing yards and a TD-to-INT ratio of 23:4. He also had 6 rushing touchdowns. Since then, the former Bulldogs quarterback hasn’t looked back on his career as a professional.

Dak Prescott Playoff Wins

In Prescott's eight seasons in the league, Prescott has managed to win only two playoff games in his career as of September 2024. His first-ever playoff victory came in the 2018 postseason. Having finished the season with a 10-6 record, the Cowboys finished atop the NFC East and hosted the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round. The back-and-forth game saw both teams with the lead and in the end, it proved to be a very close encounter with the Cowboys taking the victory 24-22. Prescott for his part, had 226 passing yards on 22 completions of 33 attempts with 1 passing touchdown and 1 interception. He also added 29 yards on the ground and 1 rushing touchdown.

Prescott’s second playoff win came in 2022, when the Cowboys reached the postseason on the back of a 12-5 record, securing 2nd place in the NFC East but getting through with a wild card spot. The Cowboys faced Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and earned a convincing 31-14 win on the road. Leading 18-0 at the half, both teams scored nearly identical points in the second half and Prescott had an amazing performance, passing for 305 yards and 4 touchdowns along with 24 rushing yards and another rushing touchdown.

Dak Prescott Playoff Losses

Unfortunately for Prescott, he has come out on the losing side four times in the playoffs. His first loss came in 2016, which was his rookie season. On the back of a brilliant 13-3 regular season, Prescott and the Cowboys hosted Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. The Packers came away with the win by a narrow 34-31 victory.

Prescott then faced the agony of a defeat in the 2018 season. After winning their Wild Card Round against the Seahawks, the Cowboys faced the Los Angeles Rams on the road in the Divisional Round. They failed to come through and lost the game 30-22.

The third playoff loss of Prescott’s NFL career came in the 2021 season. With a 12-5 record, the Cowboys again won the division but faced the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round. They came up short 23-17 in a wild ending to the game where the Cowboys ran out of time before they could run one last play for a potential game-winning touchdown.

This brings us to Prescott’s fourth loss in the postseason when the 12-5 Cowboys won the Wild Card Round and came up against the familiar 49ers once again in the Divisional Round. In a not-so-high-scoring game, the 49ers prevailed 19-12.
