Fans reacted as the San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves split their doubleheader at Truist Park on Monday. The Padres won the opening game 6-5 but lost the second one 0-3 against the Braves.

The two teams were originally supposed to play the second game on Saturday, but it was postponed due to weather conditions. The Friars took the first three games of the four-game set, winning the series.

Many Padres fans were overjoyed with the franchise’s series win, not giving much thought to the lost game.

“We won the series. That makes me happy,” a fan said.
“Still won the series only thing that matters is the comeback we had,” another fan said.
“Not mad. Vasquez giving up 3 through 6 and not burning out the bullpen was clutch. Onto Cincinnati. Let’s take another series,” a user wrote.

Some fans criticized the team for being unable to sweep the series, while most were satisfied with the series win.

”Didn't expect a 4-game sweep, but honestly I didn't even expect a series win. So I can't complain,” a comment reads.
“We won today but at what cost? Still can't get over .500 so annoying. We better beat the Reds in a sweep because we need to rack up the wins,” another comment reads.
“We are allergic to sweeping,” a Friars fan said.

In their recent defeat, Padres pitcher Randy Vasquez gave up a 3-0 lead to the Braves over the six innings he pitched. Chris Sale didn’t allow any runs from the Friars' offense in seven innings pitched, striking out nine.

Xander Bogaerts exited the Padres game early with a shoulder injury

San Diego Padres player Xander Bogaerts had to exit early during Monday’s opening game against the Atlanta Braves. He left due to a left shoulder injury suffered after diving for a ground ball.

After the game, Padres manager Mike Shildt provided an update (via MLB.com):

“So far we’re going to get some more imaging. The initial imaging is negative, so it’s positive.
"He’s got some stability more than it looked like he might have, and he’s got some strength in some range of motion. More time will tell, but the initial feedback is the best-case scenario.”

Xander Bogaerts entered the game with a .220 batting average with four home runs. The 2024 season has been tough for the four-time All-Star, who moved from shortstop to second base to make room for Ha-Seong Kim.
