Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (May 21). The two teams finished in the top two in the points table after the league stage with 20 and 17 points, respectively. The winner of this battle will book a place in the final, while the loser will get another opportunity in Qualifier 2.

The Knight Riders and the Sunrisers have locked horns 26 times in the IPL, with Kolkata leading Hyderabad by 17:9 in head-to-head battles. KKR beat SRH by four runs when the two teams last locked horns this season at Eden Gardens on March 23.

Asked to bat first, KKR posted 208/7 in 20 overs. The hosts got off to a poor start as they lost four wickets early. Phil Salt looked good for his 54 runs off 40 balls, including three sixes and as many boundaries.

Ramandeep Singh and Rinku Singh chipped in with 35 (17) and 23 (15), respectively. Andre Russell provided the final flourish, scoring an unbeaten 64 off 25 deliveries with the help of seven sixes and three boundaries.

T Natarajan starred with the ball for SRH, returning with impressive figures of 3/32, while Mayank Markande bagged two wickets.

In response, the Sunrisers managed 204/7 despite a fighting display from the batting unit. Heinrich Klaasen top scored with 63 off 29, hitting eight sixes. Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma chipped in with identical scores of 32.

Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, and Shahbaz Ahmed chipped in with run-a-ball 20, 18 (13), 15 (11), and 16 (5), respectively.

Harshit Rana was the pick of the KKR bowlers, returning with figures of 3/33, while Andre Russell bagged two wickets. Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine picked up one wicket each.

KKR’s scorecard from their last IPL game

KKR’s last two IPL games against Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans were abandoned due to rain. They beat Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in their previous rain-curtailed game on May 11.

Asked to bat first, KKR put up 157/7 in their allotted 16 overs. In-form openers Sunil Narine, Phil Salt and skipper Shreyas Iyer departed early.

Venkatesh Iyer top scored with 42 off 21 with the help of two sixes and six boundaries. Nitish Rana, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh also chipped in with 33 (23), 24 (14) and 20 (12), respectively.

Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla picked up two wickets each for MI, while Nuwan Thushara and Anshul Kamboj settled for one apiece.

In response, Mumbai managed 139/8. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma got off to decent starts, scoring 40 (22) and 19 (23), respectively. The openers, however, failed to take the team over the line. Suryakumar Yadav too perished for 11 off 14. Meanwhile, Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir chipped in with 32 (17) and 17 (6), respectively.

Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana took two wickets each for the Knight Riders, while Sunil Narine bagged a solitary wicket.

SRH’s scorecard from their last IPL game

SRH beat Punjab Kings by four wickets in their last IPL game at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday (May 19).

Batting first, Punjab posted 214/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Prabhsimran Singh starred with the bat, scoring 71 off 45, hitting four sixes and seven boundaries. Atharva Taide and Rilee Rossouw also looked brilliant for 46 (27) and 49 (24), respectively. Meanwhile, stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma smashed an unbeaten 32 off 15 to take his team past 200.

T Natarajan picked up two wickets for Sunrisers, while captain Pat Cummins and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth settled for one each.

In response, SRH achieved the target with five balls to spare. Travis Head departed for a golden duck but Abhishek Sharma stood tall. The left-hander took all the bowlers to the cleaners, scoring 66 off 28, smashing six maximums and five boundaries.

Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Reddy and Rahul Tripathi chipped in with 42 (26), 37 (25), and 33 (18), respectively.

Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel picked up two wickets each for PBKS, while Harpreet Brar and Shashank Singh bagged one apiece.
