The Indian Premier League (IPL) has successfully entered into its eighth season and has offered the viewers plenty of entertainment to cherish. IPL follows the method of auctions to trade the available players and the management welcomes bidding from all the franchises present. It is this auction that decides a player’s fate as to which franchise he would play for that season or how long he’s bound to play for them. Sometimes players are also swapped between franchises based on their specific needs. Now, what is unique about our feature is we have specially tagged along those players who have the peculiarity of playing for four or more IPL franchises in the eight editions of the tournament so far.Other players who have played for four franchises are: Dinesh Karthik, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, Vinay Kumar, Robin Uthappa, Abhishek Nayar, Ashish Nehra, Manvinder Bisla, Praveen Kumar, Manish Pandey, Murali Karthik, Ashok Dinda, Moises Henriques, Ross Taylor and Shikhar Dhawan.

#6 Steve Smith - 4

Touted as Australia’s next-big-thing, 25-year-old Steven Smith rather had a quite start to his IPL career way back in 2010 for Royal Challengers Bangalore but got to play his first match of the T20 event only in 2012 when he played for Pune Warriors India (PWI).

Enjoying a good time with PWI scoring at an average of 40, the temperamental batsman was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the 2014 auction. He has since then continued play for this Jaipur based franchise.

#5 Kevin Pietersen - 4

The man who invented ‘switch-hit’, Kevin Pietersen (KP) is an England batsman who is considered to be one of the most impactful players across all the formats when he's on song. IPL came calling on the doors of this maverick player in 2009 as he represented Royal Challengers Bangalore. KP, as he is fondly known, has never been an IPL regular.

Ending his stint with the Vijay Mallya owned franchise in 2010, he came back to play in the IPL only in 2012 for Delhi Daredevils. He has gone on to play for Deccan Chargers and now has been acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2015 season.

#4 Yuvraj Singh - 4

IPL 2015’s costliest buy for Rs 16 crore wrapped up by DD, Yuvraj Singh is a class act when it comes to the shorter formats of the game. Hailing from Punjab, he first was assigned the skipper of Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural edition. He was with them for three years before being traded off to Pune Warriors India in 2011. HIs captaincy in both the franchises did not reap any valuable results.

After fighting cancer for close to a year, the champion left-hander proved he was the most attractive batsman as Royal Challengers Bangalore grabbed him for yet another whopping sum in 2014. Delhi Daredevils now happens to be the fourth franchise he is representing in his IPL career.

#3 Thisara Perera - 5

Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera has found it difficult to establish himself in the IPL, having played for 5 different franchises in the past 6 seasons. Apart from Kings XI Punjab where he is playing currently, he has played for no franchise for more than one season, which perhaps also illustrates the fact that he hasn’t really grabbed the opportunities that have come his way.

He has shown while with the Sri Lankan team that he is an extremely useful lower-order batsman who is also handy with the ball, and it is time for him to showcase those skills sooner rather than later in the lucrative T20 league as well.

#2 Aaron Finch - 5

Aaron Finch is an aggressive Australian batsman who was first picked by Rajasthan Royals in the 2010 IPL. After playing in just one match that IPL, Finch was then bought by Delhi Daredevils in 2011. But, it was only in 2013 when he played Pune Warriors India he proved his mettle by scoring four fifties at a strike rate of 135 plus.

His fourth team was Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 and then presently he was roped in by Mumbai Indians during the 2015 auction. This makes him the only player (after Parthiv Patel) to have played for five or more IPL franchises.

#1 Parthiv Patel - 6

When he made his debut for the Indian Test team in 2002, Parthiv Patel was just a 17-year-old. Not fully capitalising on the opportunities given, Patel’s presence in the Indian team has so far been inconsistent.

As for his IPL career, the Gujarati left-hander started with Chennai Super Kings in the first edition and was with them for the first three years mostly taking the role of an opener. But, when Mumbai Indians picked him up at the 2015 IPL auctions, Patel earned a unique record for himself as he became the only player to represent 6 different IPL franchises in a span of eight seasons in this T20 tournament.
