The Chicago Bears got the most coveted candidate available in the coaching market when they hired Ben Johnson as their 18th full-time head coach, as per Chicago Bears' official website. In free agency, Ryan Poles went out on an offensive lineman spree, as he added Drew Dalman and traded for both Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, completely revamping an offensive line from a season ago. The mantra of this team always has been: come out as a winner during the free agency period, and then go on to lay an egg once the season starts. It also does not help that Chicago plays in a division where the other three teams not only reached the playoffs last year, but each of them finished the season with double-digit wins.

Chicago Bears' biggest needs in the 2025 NFL Draft

Chicago did a good job in free agency by building from the inside out. After adding three offensive linemen, Poles targeted the defensive line by bringing in Grady Jarrett and Dayo Odeyingbo. However, it still feels the team is an edge away from making it a formidable defensive line. While the Bears still have the services of Braxton Jones for a year, it depends on whether Chicago’s front office views him as a future tackle for the organization or not.

Offensive Tackle

This is a scenario that only plays out if the Bears do not see Braxton as a long-term answer. According to Bears' Wire, Chicago invited five offensive linemen (four tackles and a guard) during their pre-draft visits, which include Anthony Belton, Will Campbell, Josh Conerly Jr., Jonah Savaiinaea, and Dylan Fairchild.

Safety

This is not a position of real weakness but of concern, as injury-riddled Jaquan Brisker is entering the last year of his rookie contract. In a draft class that boasts of safeties like Malaki Starks and Nick Emmanwori, Chicago has a chance to strengthen their backend, pairing either of those two with Jaylon Johnson.

Edge

Browns need a reliable edge rusher to compliment Montez Sweat’s 5.5 sacks that led the team. Apart from him, none of the defensive ends have been able to record more than four sacks. While plugging in Grady Jarrett in the middle certainly helps in relieving some pressure off Sweat, a second-option edge is required after a defensive back.

Running Back

Chicago has a good running back in D’Andre Swift, but he is more of a complementary piece than an every-down starter. It seems unlikely Heisman-finalist Ashton Jeanty does not get drafted within top 6, but there would be a chance Ryan Poles moves up in the draft to grab him. Even if they fail to acquire Jeanty, there are many options available at that position. The four running backs to get invited by the Bears to pre-draft visit are Ashton Jeanty, Omarion Hampton, Kaleb Johnson, and Breshard Smith.
