At 6 feet tall, Davion Mitchell plays as a back-up point guard for the Sacramento Kings. Born on September 5, 1998, in Hinesville, Georgia, Mitchell first displayed his basketball skills at Liberty County High School, where he emerged as a highly touted four-star recruit.

After playing for Auburn University in 2017-2018, Mitchell transferred to Baylor, where he played for two seasons from 2019 to 2021. During his time at Baylor, Mitchell gained nationwide recognition for his pesky defense, and played a crucial role in Baylor’s first ever national championship in 2021.

In the 2021 NCAA title game against previously undefeated Gonzaga, Mitchell showcased his all-around game and stuffing the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists. His elite defensive prowess earned him numerous accolades, including the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award, NABC Defensive Player of the Year award, and the Lefty Driesell Award for the top defensive player in the nation. Additionally, Mitchell earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Big 12 honors.

Selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings, Mitchell brings his tenacious defense to the professional level. While not a regular starter for the Kings due to the presence of star point guard De'Aaron Fox, Mitchell has carved out a niche for himself as a valuable backup guard who can make impactful defensive contributions and knock down clutch 3-pointers.

Mitchell’s notable defense on Stephen Curry in the 2023 playoffs underscored his defensive capabilities and impact on the game.
