Nicolas Devir Claxton is a professional basketball center for the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA as of November 2024. Born on April 17, 1999, in Greenville, South Carolina, Claxton's basketball journey began at Legacy Charter School. In high school, he becomes the fourth player in school history to score 1,000 points. Claxton continued his development at the University of Georgia, where he played college basketball from 2017 to 2019. Brooklyn Nets selected him as the 31st overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft.

The 2021 season marked a turning point when the Nets traded DeAndre Jordan, promoting Claxton to the starting center position. During the 2023-24 season, he led the league with a 70.5% field goal percentage. He averaged 2.1 blocks per game, ranking second in the league, and finishing ninth in Defensive Player of the Year voting. That season, he averaged 11.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Before his NBA career, Claxton represented the United States Virgin Islands in international competition. He played in the Centrobasket Under-15 Championship in Panama City, averaging an impressive double-double with 10.6 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. His international experience expanded at the 2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship in Chile, where he led his team with 12 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. By 2018, he had advanced to the senior national team, participating in qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Chase's senior year in 2022-23 marked several milestones, including his 100th game appearance. He set personal bests with 36 blocks, 33 steals, and 31 assists. According to his college profile, he ranked fifth in the Big South with 1.2 blocks per game and tenth in steals, averaging 1.1 per game.
