As a consensus five-star recruit out of high school, Achiuwa committed to play for the University of Memphis under head coach Penny Hardaway. He played only one college season, averaging 15.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks a game.

The Miami Heat selected Precious Achiuwa with the 20th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. After his rookie season, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors in a sign-and-trade that landed Kyle Lowry to the Heat.
