Born on May 10, 2001, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Eason started high school basketball at Garfield High School in Seattle. He later transferred to Federal Way High School, where he played alongside Jaden McDaniels, but he returned to Garfield for his senior year. Eason led Garfield to a 3A state title, winning the tournament MVP by beating O'Dea High led by Paolo Banchero. Tari Eason then played college basketball at Cincinnati in 2020–2021 and made the AAC All-Freshman Team.
