NBA

The 2018-19 NBA season will be the 73rd season of the National Basketball Association(NBA). The pre-season matches will start from 28th September 2018 while the regular season will begin on 16th October 2018.


The playoffs will begin from 13th April 2019 and will conclude with the NBA Finals ending in June 2019. The 2019 NBA All-Star Game will be played on 17th February 2019 at the Spectrum Centre, which is the home ground of Michael Jordan owned Charlotte Hornets.


Retirements


Some of the major retirements following to the 2018-19 season of NBA are:


  1. Manu Ginobili retired on 27th August 2018. He played all his 16 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. He is a four time NBA champion and a two time NBA All-Star.
  2. David West announced his retirement on 30th August 2018. He played for teams like Golden State Warriors an San Antonio Spurs. West is a two time NBA champion and a NBA All-Star.
  3. Two time NBA All-Star Roy Hilber announced his retirement on 17th July. Hilbert played for teams like Indiana Pacers and Log Angeles Lakers.


Head Coach Changes


A total of eight head coach changes have taken place for the coming NBA season. Some of the major ones were:


  1. Steve Clifford was fired as the head coach of Charlotte Hornets and has been replaced by former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach James Borrego.
  2. Lloyd Pierce replaced Mike Budenholzer as the head coach of Atlanta Hawks



Player Movements


Some of the major player movements this season are :


  1. LeBron James joined Los Angeles Lakers after four seasons with Cleveland Cavaliers
  2. Jose Calderon joined Detroit Pistons after leaving Cleveland Cavaliers
  3. Jonas Jerebko joined Golden State Warriors after being waved from Utah Jazz
  4. Jabari Parker joined Chicago Bulls from Milwaukee Bucks
  5. Channing Frye joined Cleveland Cavaliers after leaving Los Angeles Lakers
  6. Okaro White joined San Antonio Spurs after being waived from Cleveland Cavaliers
  7. Quincy Pondexter joined San Antonio Spurs after being waved from Chicago Bulls
  8. Malik Newman joined Miami Heat after leaving Los Angeles Lakers.
  9. David Nwaba joined Cleveland Cavaliers after leaving Chicago Bulls.
  10. Tyler Ulis joined Golden State Warriors after being waved from Phoenix Suns


Pre Season


The pre-season will begin on 28th September as Charlotte Hornets will face Boston Celtics. It will end on 12th October with the last match being between Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.


Pre Season International Games


Toronto Raptors will play two pre-season games in Canada. The first one will be against Portland Trail Blazers in Vancouver on 29th September. The other one will be played on 10th October against Brooklyn Nets at the Bell Centre in Montreal.


The Dallas Mavericks and the Philadelphia 76ers will play two pre-season games in China on 5th and 8th October.


Regular Season


The regular season will begin on 16th October 2018 and will end on 10th April 2019. The first match of the season will be played between Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics. The 26 weeks regular season will end with the match between Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers.


Regular Season International Games


Washington Wizards will play New York Knicks at the O2 Arena in London on 17th January 2019.


Orlando Magic will play Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz at Mexico City Arena on 13th and 15th December 2018 respectively.

This will be Golden State Warriors’ final season at Oracle Arena before moving to the new Chase Center in San Francisco.


The Atlanta Hawks’ home arena has been renamed to State Farm Arena from Philips Arena.


The Toronto Raptors has been renamed to Scotiabank Arena from Air Canada Centre.

This will be the Milwaukee Bucks’ first season at the new Fiserv Forum after playing at the Bradley Center from 1998 to 2018.


Major Changes


Three different rule changes will be implemented, starting with this season onward. These changes include shortening the game clock from 24 seconds to 14 seconds during offensive rebounds, simplifying the clear path foul and expanding the definition of hostile act.
