10 calmest cricketers in the world currently

Joe Root

#7 George Bailey

George Bailey

"He's a very mature, calm young man. Composed, and I think you'll see in his batting performances, a difficult situation brings out the best in him."

These words were spoken by Australia national selector John Inverarity on the eve of the right-hander’s Test debut against England at Brisbane in November 2013. While he may not have set the Test arena ablaze, he has been one of the most consistent performers for Australia in ODIs, with an average close to 50, and his composed handling of a talented Kings XI Punjab team during the 2014 edition of the IPL caused NDTV to conclude:

‘Among the many positives of Kings XI Punjab this year, George Bailey's captaincy ranks the best. Cool and calm under pressure his leadership is critical to Punjab's consistency as a team.’

With a pleasant demeanour and a permanent smile in the face of both victory and defeat, in stark contrast to some of his Aussie predecessors, Bailey comes across as a much needed breath of fresh air in times of mounting aggression in world cricket.
