Christian Koloko is a 7-foot-tall center for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was born and raised in Douala, Cameroon. Koloko initially played soccer before switching to basketball at age 12. He moved to the United States in 2017 to pursue a basketball career. At first, he attended Birmingham High School in California as a junior. Later, he transferred to Sierra Canyon School, where he won a state title alongside some future NBA players such as Kenyon Martin Jr. and Scotty Pippen Jr. As a four-star recruit in high school, Koloko then joined the University of Arizona where he played three years from 2019 to 2022. He won Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. His college success led to him being drafted by the Toronto Raptors in 2022 as the 33rd overall pick in the second round.

In 2023, Christian Koloko faced serious blood clot issues that sidelined him for a large part of the sophomore season. The Raptors eventually waived him early in 2024. Eventually, the Los Angeles Lakers signed Koloko during the 2024 offseason, giving him a new opportunity.
