Kyle initially attended Swartz Creek Community School but later transferred to Bentley High School in Michigan. During his junior year, he averaged 17.9 points, 14.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. After his junior season, Kyle moved to Rise Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he resumed his gameplay. As a senior-year student at Rise Academy, he averaged 22 points per game. Following this season, Kyle got many offers from different agencies but he decided to play college basketball for the University of Utah.


Kyle Kuzma joined the University of Utah in 2013. He could not play in his first year as he signed late with this college. As a sophomore, he averaged 10.8 points per game. During the 2016-17 season, Kyle averaged 16.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists. After graduating in sociology, he left college and entered the 2017 NBA draft.


The Brooklyn Nets selected Kyle in the 2017 NBA draft and he signed a rookie contract with the team on July 3. Kyle was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team at the end of the 2017-18 season. In 2021, he was traded to the Washington Wizards. Kyle led this team to various championships against several teams including Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Charlotte Hornets.


In June 2023, the Washington Wizards recently offered him a player option worth $13 million. But Kyle rejected the deal and chose to be a free agent.
