After high school, Jaylon Larone Tyson joined the Texas Longhorns men's basketball team, playing for one season in 2021-22. He then transferred to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, where he had another successful year. Subsequently, he moved to the California Golden Bears men's basketball team, where he firmly established his worth and earned First-team All-Pac-12 honours in 2024.


His best season came in 2023, where Tyson averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 assists and 6.8 rebounds per game in 31 matches.


Following his successful season, Tyson was recognized as one of the 78 players invited to the 2024 NBA Draft Combine. He also declared as an early-entry candidate for the 2024 NBA Draft.
