As a five-star recruit coming out of high school, Black played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks, where he averaged 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game. He started all 36 games, averaging 34.9 minutes per game, most in the SEC division in the 2022/23 season. Black was named on the SEC All-Freshman team.
