Born March 23, 1990, Gordon Daniel Hayward is an American professional basketball player who plays as a power forward or small forward for the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Brought up in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S., by his parents Gordon Scott Hayward and Jody Hayward, he attended Brownsburg High School in Brownsburg, Indiana. A tennis player initially, Hayward shifted to basketball later in high school.

Hayward, along with the help of his teammates, led his school to the Indiana Class 4A state championship in his senior season. It was in fact Hayward who made the game-winning basket at the buzzer in the title game. He would go on to be voted the Indianapolis Star Player of the Year. He was also selected to the Second-team all-state by AP and First-team all-state by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Hayward committed to playing college basketball for the Butler Bulldogs at Butler University. He famously led them all the way to the championship game at the 2010 NCAA tournament against Duke. He was subsequently selected to the All-Tournament Team for his heroics.

The Utah Jazz picked up Hayward in the 2010 NBA draft with their ninth overall pick. After seven seasons with the Jazz, Hayward moved to the Boston Celtics. He is currently with the Charlotte Hornets. He is a one-time NBA All-Star, making his only appearance in 2017.

Internationally, Hayward has represented the United States at the 2009 FIBA U-19 World Cup in Auckland, winning gold with the team.
